We chose to use this establishment as home base while in the area fishing a marlin tournament. To preface, We, as a group, are professionals, business owners, hunters, offshore fishermen and women and all around outdoorsmen. We are not picky, or hard to please at all, we're use to sleeping in cabins, our trucks or tents with no power for extended periods of time.
We reserved 3 rooms for 3 nights over the phone. During the reservation process, the total was given and paid over the phone. There was no confirmation email sent. We selected the Beaufort Inn due to the fact that they had fuel and dockage for a boat our size. Our boat is a 35 foot Duffy full keel single screw that's 13' wide at the stern. Upon arrival, there were 0 boats in the slips. We chose an outside slip, floating dock on one side and fixed on the other. One of their largest slips and just large enough at 15' to accommodate our boat. With an expected tide drop of 3-4 feet, tying up was tricky and required several adjustments during the tide swings. Once we checked in, we were told that the next day we had to move to our assigned slip because that one was reserved. We did so the next day once we return from fishing. BTW..there was not another boat in our previous slip. And, we had to fuel elsewhere as there is no fuel available on site. We relocated to the other slip as requested. It was the exact configuration we were in except on the other end of the dockage. One note to remember here is that docking is somewhat difficult during strong incoming and outgoing tides. The docks are situated in a cross current. This isn't a huge concern with smaller outboard boats, but a major issue with a full keel boat in 5 knot cross current and only 1 foot for error on either side.
Friday nights stay was fine, rooms are dated, but clean. We looked forward to the hot tub after a long day on the water. It was hot and functional but littered with debris from the overhanging trees and bird feathers. We used it anyway, no complaints. Eating establishments were convenient and plentiful.
Saturday's fishing was cancelled due to weather and we spent the morning running errands and picking up supplies to take to back to our families on Hatteras island, who were stranded with no power, on our return trip Sunday. When we returned from breakfast and running errands sometime after lunch, we were asked why we hadn't checked out and vacated our rooms. Unbeknownst to us, they had inadvertently booked us for 2 nights in each room instead of 3. Again, there was never any written confirmation given or emailed. Our group, in an effort to help out the hotel, offered to consolidate and give up two rooms since we had another party there with one room. We were told in no uncertain terms that we were in the wrong and that they needed us to vacate the rooms. There was absolutely zero effort on the hotels part to work with us and we had no choice but to pack up and leave. The other person in our party gladly gave up his room for our boat owner, his wife and son, so they had a room for the night.
As if that weren't enough......and another example of the Beaufort Inn's unwillingness to work with us, after we left to find another place to stay, our boat owner was asked to relocate to boat to another slip since they had booked the one we were in. We returned an hour later to help move the boat. We did so, and damaged the back corner of the boat in the process due to cross current and the narrow slip they sent us to. Hours after we moved the boat, someone contacted us and said we could move it back to our previous slip since the other party wasn't going to make it in for the night. What a joke....
In closing, and to get to the meat of my review of this otherwise charming, quant hotel. The failure of the management and folks in charge to work with us in any manner cast a dark cloud on our very successful tournament weekend, and inconvenienced our entire group immensely with their lack of hospitality. In the hospitality industry.....that does not go unnoticed by folks who work and travel for a living. Make sure you dot your i's and cross your t's with this bunch because "if you don't like it you can just leave". Quote from the brown haired lady with glasses at the front desk in the presence of the red headed manager and gentleman in charge of maintenance. Sorry I didn't ask for their names. We had no issue with maintenance fellow by the way. Nice guy, very hospitable. Good luck and have fun in Beaufort....great little town.

We are sorry there was confusion regarding your reservations. Email confirmations and reminders are sent out via email to all guests.

Boat slips are assigned at time of bookings to prevent confusion as to what slip they should pull into upon their arrival. Unfortunately, we cannot foresee when a guest ends up not bringing their boat at the last minute.
Beaufort Inn has never had the capability for refueling.

Thank you for your feedback regarding the spa. The spa is cleaned and maintained daily. I will have our maintenance guy address the issue with birds in the trees above the spa in the attempt to minimize chance of feathers entering.

The staff works hard to see that our guests have an enjoyable stay. Unfortunately this didn't work out for you on this particular visit.

For that we are sorry.

We are returning visitors to Beaufort SC and to the Beaufort Inn. It was more than a visit but a celebration of my wife's birthday. The Inn gave us a beautiful, spacious room with a bottle of wine on ice; a local florist had delivered flowers. It was perfect! Our daughter had her own room "next door" and she concurs! Kudos to the staff at the Beaufort Inn and "yes" we will return!

Very clean. Enjoyed the water views. Average room. Short walk to downtown. Breakfast was below average due to microwaved food. Basically, $230 was way too much for what we got. Would have been very happy at $125-$135.

My husband and loved another visit at Beaufort Inn. Stayed on the 3rd floor, water view, balcony with rocking chairs. Enjoyed the hot tub, visit to historic Beaufort, and Morehead City. Have always enjoyed the breakfast but it wasn't quite as good as it used to be, missing the breakfast quiche or pie. Good coffee and friendly staff. Breakfast area recently updated.

Hospitality: The staff is helpful and friendly. They deserve a 5 star rating. Overall, many special touches are available for guests. For example, borrow a large umbrella and comfortably walk to the nearby restaurants and shopping. Secured, private parking is directly across the street. Information for local events is plentiful.

Pricing: I'm a contractor for the military and am pleased this quaint B&B honors the government rate. Thank you for helping those who choose to serve our military (who give all for us).

Food: Water & coffee are available at anytime in a comfortable living room with a large TV. The breakfast is a voucher that may be used by three nearby places. The snag is the places open a wee bit too late for early workers. Also, gluten-free options would be awesome at the breakfast places and during snack times.

Comfort: The rooms in the main hotel are pet-free, so that helped with allergy issues. The rooms are spacious and accommodate the needs of modern conveniences. Please keep in mind this is a historic B&B. One of the pluses of this hotel is the spacious outdoor decks and porches, which are lovely.

Location: Love it. High scores for walkability with nearby locally-owned restaurants, waterfront park, art galleries, & shopping.

What a nice review you provided. However, I believe you may have been in the Beaufort Inn in South Carolina due to the fact that you mentioned you were provided a breakfast voucher. We happen to serve breakfast to our guests in our dining room each morning.

We appreciate all those who serve in the military and also offer government rates.
If you're ever in Beaufort, NC we would love the opportunity to have you stay with us.
