Had a late arrival and although we were told the instructions for the room would be on the mantle, and even though a man stuck his head out of the owners residence to acknowledge we were there, no one came out to greet us or help with luggage, as all rooms are up the stairs with no elevator. Additionally, there were no instructions on parking or where to unload and the steps were unswept, full of wet leaves and slippery.Breakfast was disappointing- first day -French toast with Apple topping and fruit - no juice or other choices- just served and then the owner disappeared. Second day was more variety...cheese omelet, granola, fruit...but never was asked if we even wanted cheese or was allergic to anything. Third day, French toast with strawberry topping - bummer for someone who doesn't like strawberries as was already on the French toast- no other food or choices- served by the owner in her bathrobe - obviously an easy choice for her to serve with no interest to really accommodate or please the guest. During our stay, when I tried to knock on the door to know where to find glass wear or with other questions during the day, no one answered or was available. The room was okay but hard to tell how clean it was (old carpets, old unfinished floors with paint drops)
A plus was there was hot water easily available in the room and the place is pet friendly.

As we pulled up I was not sure we were at the right place. Upon entering we found an old home which was nicely appointed with many antiques. The innkeeper greeted us and showed us to our room. She was quite knowledgeable and polite. The breakfast which she prepared the following day was terrific. We would definitely recommend the Black Mountain Inn

I really love this highly overlooked historical inn. Formerly catered to historical figures such as Helen Keller, Ernest Hemingway, John Steinbeck, and Norman Rockwell, I'm surprised of how low key this inn appears to be. I have been to very haunted and spiritually active inns in towns such as Salem MA, and even with this home formerly housing TB patients, the atmosphere is all around calm and peaceful.

The bed was by far the most comfortable hotel bed I have ever slept in. Period.
The antique bathtub was a nice touch that complimented the houses old charm.
Every piece of furniture was antique and had nice detail that you just don't find in modern furnishings.
The breakfast is all homemade and organic and ready on the table in the morning until 9am.
The owner is very kind and willing to talk about the property and to socialize.

I will make future reservations, without a doubt.

Room Tip: Emili's Room, raised flooring with antique bath, private WC, mountain view

We stayed here for an anniversary trip and had a great time. We reserved the Artist's Loft, which was basically the entire top floor of the home. It was accessed through a staircase which had a really unique horizontal door in the floor of the room. It was very spacious and was an amazing experience. The home has no air-conditioning, and we visited when it was still hot, so that was a consideration, but with open windows and ceiling fans, we really didn't have an issue. Breakfast the next morning was simple, but very good and like most B&Bs, we had a chance to meet some great people also visiting. We will definitely stay here again and I would highly recommend it.
