We rented the Azalea Cabin for one of our stops along the BRP trip. One of the first things my husband noticed was the moss-filled gutters with plants growing out of it when we pulled up. Other cabins had the same situation.

The cottage was cute and definitely clean in appearance. We really appreciated the a/c being on to cool the place down and having all the lights on to welcome us in. The kitchen was ok, but when we got take-out and went to use the dishes, they were sticky as was some of the silverware. We did mention this when we checked out.

The bathroom was fine, but we were not fans of the HGTV-like sink bowl. Just no room to put stuff on the counter and the sink seemed to drain really slow.

The lights and fire-pit areas were definitely a nice touch and I could see the areas being a great place to meet other renters there. Unfortunately, we seemed to be the only guests during that timeframe. The drive to the cabin area was easy and the little bridge and river by the cabins was nice. Just wish the highway was not so close with the car noise in the morning.

Since the cottages are in the woods, bugs are to be expected. We did find an ant in the bathroom, but more unsettling was the ant on the ceiling above the bed. Again, this is the woods so not out of the ordinary...

Overall, the stay was just ok.

The room was very standard - old time. Clean, good bed, good A/C. A super staff : friendly, courteous, and often, talkative. Which is great. Formerly a family-run motel, it was recently purchased by a larger firm. Nothing has changed so far. Great Coffee !!!! And a nice outdoor patio. The best location.

Usually I trust and agree with TripAdvisor reviews and use them as a guide to selecting a property. However, I strongly disagree with the 5-star rating of this property. It disturbs me to write a strongly negative review. But when I feel like the experiences of other travelers could be affected, it's important to be honest.

My husband and I rented a River Cabin (Maple, #6), based on the cute online photos and favorable reviews. However, the cabin had such a strong musty odor that we could not breathe inside. We tried to air out the cabin, but nothing worked,. Our first night, we cranked the window AC unit in the bedroom, which did nothing to clear the moldy smell. The window unit was so noisy that we could not sleep. There was also a problem with the drive to the Maple Cabin on a gravel road with hairpin turns and tight switchbacks. We did not have a four-wheel drive, and the ride up to the cabin was downright scary. We did not go out that night, because we did not feel comfortable making it back safely to that cabin in the dark.

The next day, we spoke to the management, requesting another accommodation, preferably a cabin closer to town. There was only one option available, River Cabin #3, which was at the bottom of the gravel road. While this cabin was more accessible, it, too, had a dank, unpleasant smell. We saw traces of what appeared to be mold in the bathroom — black discoloration in back of the toilet, alongside the floor, and by the bathtub (shown in photos). We stayed in this cabin because there was nowhere else on the property to go, even thought it felt unhealthy to be breathing this air for three days.

On a positive note, the management did seem to be understanding and tried to be helpful. However, based on our experience in two different River Cabins with an unacceptable air quality , we honestly could not recommend this property to others.

Room tip: Avoid the River Cabins at all CostS

Cabin was nice, but dated. Be careful of description. WiFi was not available at our location despite promises. Staff was unable to resolve. Liked that we were off the beaten trail. But the price was exorbitant. Won’t be back. Try alternatives.

The cabin was perfect! It was so nice and private but so close to everything at the same time. We would stay there again, for sure. The only thing I could possibly complain about was we wished we had our own firepit at our cabin. We were at the top of the hill and walked down to use the public firepit, which is perfect! We noticed a few others had firepits of their own. It truly was perfect!
