Bad Hotel

1.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 3 weeks ago
I had a bad experience at the Hampton inn and Suites Hotel. The shower and bathroom flooded. It was very dangerous standing in water to us hair dyer. The front desk was no help. I ask manager to give me a call. The manager never called. I called Corporate I have not got a call from Corporate. I am confused about what 100 percent satisfaction guarantee means.

The lady at the front was very disrespectful! We brought it to her attention that the elevator in this building hadn’t been checked since 2022 (which is terrifying!) and she said “there’s nothing I can do about it” with a terrible attitude! of course *I* can’t do anything about it, but she could 100% reach out to her manager and let them know! so disrespectful!

First, the good... I stayed here a year ago when moving to the area and the staff went above and beyond to accommodate me and my pets when we moved out here a year ago and had to make several last-minute changes to our room reservations. They also were helpful when I arrived then with COVID and needed to quarantine and be at the hotel longer than expected.

We recently stayed there again almost exactly a year later while having some flooring work done at our house. For whatever reason, the level of friendliness, helpfulness, and professionalism of the staff was considerably less this time. They weren't bad, just adequate and nothing more and showed no real level of interest in us personally as guests. The main issue we had though was what prompted my two star review - on our last night there, while my disabled partner was showering around 11 p.m., a considerable amount of water escaped from the shower area and flooded the bathroom and front hallway floors. We were in an ADA room with a roll-in shower which enabled more of the water to escape the shower than might typically occur. There is a drain in the middle of the bathroom floor that should've taken care of this, but it was clogged and was only slowly draining, leading to the flooding situation. When I called down to the front desk to ask for help cleaning it up, I was told by the person there that he was the only one on duty and couldn't leave the desk for very long. So instead he brought up a mop and wished me luck. As a result, I had to spend quite a while late at night mopping up a substantial amount of water from those areas. Needless to say, I wasn't happy about having to become an impromptu unpaid maintenance worker to clean up a mess that occurred due to their lack of proper maintenance of their facility. I only wonder what they would've done if a disabled person had been staying in the room alone and had this happen. Over the past 10 days I've left two messages with the manager and have received no call back.

This hotel is a Hilton and I was a bit disappointed in some areas and pleasantly surprised in others. Upon my arrival on a Friday evening I discovered that it was move in weekend for the local university. That made for a lot of bookings from folks who had driven great distances and long lines. To add to a busy check in desk, one or more of the 3rd party booking companies had an issue and many people were unable to get their rooms (never use 3rd party booking systems-book through Hilton). People were grumpy but the front desk staff was kind and patient. They worked very hard to make sure each guest got a room. The general manager even stepped in to help deal with all of the issues. Kudos to the front desk staff. The beds and linens were lovely in my room.

But…

Upon my arrival to my room I met a couple of travelers who had entered their room with their key only to discover ANOTHER couple staying there. That should never happen. Ever. I was so nervous I had to use my flip door blocker so I could ensure no unauthorized entry. When I opened my door I found it already opened. The door would not fully close unless pulled upon. THEN I found a dirty sock and small trash on the floor. Was it vacuumed? No conditioner in the bathroom ( clean towels though) and a shampoo dispenser that was either empty or malfunctioning. The smoke detector required a new battery and beeped incessantly for hours until after several requests from me the GM dismantled it due to maintenance staff having gone home. Although I had a pull out sofa, no linens or pillows were in the room. Other guests mentioned the same issue. The refrigerator leg was broken (but the unit worked). I came back from a very long workday to discover no daily housekeeping-thus still not vacuumed. Hmmm. The breakfast was so-so (usual fare) but no coffee creamer.
These are small details and after speaking with the GM I understand that he is new to this hotel and is working to bring up this hotel’s standards of quality. I hope he is successful because this was a sub-par stay at what should be a great hotel.

The hotel was very nice- clean and pleasant. I had a problem with the TV in my room and the very nice woman at the front desk (name starts with a "Z") responded immediately. When she was unable to resolve the issue, she moved me to a different room, which turned out to be a suite! That was the first time I had ever stayed in a suite and it was very nice. I wish I could have stayed longer. I also went to the pool, which was pleasant and clean. The breakfast had a number of choices and was very good.

First of all, the front desk staff at this site are amazing, always patient, pleasant and professional. Special shout out to Zykia (did I spell that right?). Actually all of the staff are friendly and helpful. Suites are laid out well and good-sized, bedding is perfect. Our rate included breakfast, but their breakfast is really not worth it. Eggs and some form of meat put in a plastic warmer for most of the morning. There's a Hardee's and a Dunkin' right nearby, where you can get real food.
Overall, a good place, convenient to Durham, Chapel Hill and RDU, with a great staff...only two quibbles---
1. We're a quarter of the way through the 21st century and they still don't have any treads on the bathtub floor. Hang on while showering, folks.
2. A barn door separating the bathroom from bedroom is a nice aesthetic, but when the installer doesn't level the door, it can't stay closed and then, well it's not really a door anymore
