One and done

Still trying to figure out why this place has such high ratings. I chose this for a 2 night stay. From the outside the building is attractive. However the interior is dark and dated.

The shower / toilet area is the worst! There is a single lightbulb in the exhaust fan and someone decided to use an energy efficient bulb. So when you enter and for several minutes afterwards it feels like you are in a cave. The dark brown shower walks and beige floor also don’t help. And know that the beds are very close to the bathroom. You can hear everything happening in the bathroom while lying in bed.

Know before you go:
*Staff is very friendly
*Hallways are darkly decorated
*Hotel allows pets which we weren’t aware of when making our plans. Even with COVID and a less than full hotel we were placed next to a large, loud family who owned a dog. I love animals but I don’t want to pay to listen to children bickering and dogs barking.
*On first night of stay there was a fire alarm and everyone evacuated while fire personnel investigated. After a while guests just started going back into the hotel on their own. Staff didn’t stop them or ever let us know what was happening.
*There are no restaurants in walking distance.
*Carpeting (especially hallways) need to be cleaned).
*There are NO ice machines! So if you are planning to fill your cooler, make an alternate plan.
*Guest laundry is available: $1 wash/$1.50 dry.
*Pool deck chairs need to be replaced-they are very faded and worn.

We stayed at the Residence Inn for seven weeks during the COVID-19 outbreak after being displaced from our home. The staff was warm, welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. All social distancing requirements required by NC were maintained and the hotel was kept appropriately clean throughout. The small amount of maintenance that was necessarily was handled quickly. We appreciate the Residence Inn's commitment to keeping its guests safety and comfortable during this difficult time.

Room tip: The two bedroom suites are large and comfortable.

Everything about this hotel is first class. The gentleman at the front desk was very professional and very helpful. When we advised that we did have our pet with us, he told us that guests with pets are placed on the first floor which was fine with us. The room and the hallway were both very clean and did not have any pet odors or any indications that this area was reseved for guests with pets. The room was spacious and very quiet. The breakfast was above average. Hotel is in a great location and one of the nicest Residence Inn that we have stayed at.

I did attempt to contact the hotel manager via email prior to leaving this review. I did not receive a response :-(
I had originally booked 2 nights at your property, Residence Inn @ 101 Erwin Road, Chapel Hill, North Carolina 27514 USA. My first impression, was the front desk attendant, who was very friendly and welcoming. He also acknowledged my status as a loyal Marriott guest. I give compliments to the front desk attendant for this first impression. As I was a sign on adjacent room to my own which read “Cats inside, do not enter”. Of all the Marriott brands I have stayed, I have never seen anything like this before. I disregarded this sign and entered my room. The toilet was running, which it continued to run intermittently all night. The next morning I was awaken abruptly by a large dog barking in the room next to mine. Upon leaving my room yesterday morning, the hallway smelled like animals.

Why would anyone place a business traveler next to rooms with pets? Nobody asked me if I wanted to be next to pets or if I had pet allergies.

I had no idea this hotel allowed pets.

I decided to check out a day early. I like pets, not hotels that smell like them.

Good Afternoon, Mctraveler2.

We're incredibly sorry to hear about the disruptive night you had. Being a pet friendly hotel is a great amenity for many guests, however it does introduce challenges of which we are mindful. I had not received the email you mentioned, but I would be very glad to talk with you about your room so that our staff can pinpoint the issues and assure you that they are addressed quickly. In the meantime, I have shared your feedback with our front desk, housekeeping, and maintenance teams and they are busy making sure this will not happen in the future.

Please feel free to call anytime. Thank you, Mctraveler2.

I don't normally write reviews, but I had to write one for the Residence Inn. We were scheduled to stay at the Residence Inn for family weekend in September. Upon arriving in Chapel Hill, I got an email saying that our room was, unfortunately not available and they were going to relocate my family 20 minutes away from Chapel Hill at another hotel (and pick up the cost for the weekend). (FEMA overstayed their initial reservation last minute - which can't be helped I suppose but also is not my issue and I should not pick up the cost or inconvenience for this.) This was obviously a nice gesture but just not going to work for us. Staying 20 minutes away would have totally changed our schedules and our flexibility while visiting our daughter. We only had 2 days with her so being able to quickly get to and from our hotel was a priority. I quickly searched other hotels in Chapel Hill and found one at 2X the price of the Residence Inn - since I was a last-minute reservation. I grabbed it out of necessity. I called the Residence Inn and explained that due to the fact that the FEMA employees stayed later than expected, I would now be incurring a cost double what I would have originally paid for the Residence Inn. Sam, the manager, totally understood and was so understanding. He knew it wasn't right for me to pick up the cost and was generous enough to offer us a free weekend at the Residence Inn for a future weekend. It was so professional. I really appreciated Sam working with me so that I did not end up paying double for the weekend (over time I would recoup my $). This is how a hotel should be run - with such consideration for the customer. I can not say that I ever stayed in this hotel, but with this level of service, I look forward to staying there in the near future. Thank you, Sam and Residence Inn!

Four of us stayed here on business for four nights. The entire staff was helpful at all times. Rooms were comfortable and immaculate. Free printing from the Internet-connected computer near the front desk was appreciated. Special thanks to Stephanie who was beyond hospitable, friendly, accommodating, and professional at all times.
