We visited the Jolly Roger twice during our week stay for our 25th wedding anniversary. It was one of the most unique restaurants we have visited, to say the least. Waitresses are dressed as pirates and has a pirate themed decor. The menu is fairly limited for lunch, but the dinner menu is extensive and fairly priced, with great portions. Everything we had on both visits was fabulous! We will definitely look forward to a return visit when In the are again! Great for families, children, or a romantic candle light dinner.

We go here every time we visit the OBX. The food is great and the service is great as well. I had the Blackened chicken carbonara and my wife had the chicken parmesan and it was very good as always. The wait staff always kept our glasses full and the manager ask if everything was good. We were there on a Monday night and a lady from a local radio station stopped by giving coupons for a free Harley shirt from a local Harley dealer.
Good food good service. Win, Win...

In short, Cheap drinks. Good time, Dive restaurant in the Front, Dive bar in the back! And this is meant as a compliment, right up our alley.

Hodgepodge of multiple buildings built by the loving hands of its owners, and has a unique charm!
Others say that the Food tastes good but the place is dirty and run down. I will agree with the fact the Christmas ornaments may be a bit over the top but it gives the place a unique appeal, yes, its dirty, but the kind of dirty you’d expect for being in business for so long, being hit by countless hurricane’s, and keeps some character. Id never expect a pirate to be in any other type of establishment! From the eclectic dust covered Christmas ornaments that hang from the tin foil covered ceiling to the old filling station floors mixed with the Halloween spiders hanging from the lamps, and countless pirate décor, it Shivers the timbers…

If you have a problem with the atmosphere, then you’re not the right type of person to be eating here, I’d suggest going back to olive garden and leaving the local eats to those who don’t mind a bit of character, the people who work here, and the people who frequent here are very kind, and each one has their own story.

The cookies they sell under the counter were awesome, bought 2 dozen various to bring for the 12-hour drive back home to Ohio. Pick yourself up some on your way out the door, they’ll keep you smiling as long as your co-pilot doesn’t eat all of your favorite ones without providing you a few!

We had the 2-lobster special (Saturdays Lobster Feast: $29.95), Steamed 1/2 Pound of Crab legs ($11.99) and the Jolly’s Delight (Crab cake with smoked gouda and bacon, surrounded by a base of grits and floating/sinking in an ocean of cheese!. The ½ lb of steamed Shrimp were huge and quite tasty, the lobsters were a religious experience that lasted more than an hour, and I could only wish for such a fare back home, they even made by request a garlic butter dipping sauce for the lobster that was out of this world.

The garlic bread they serve you when you first get seated, we had 3 servings of, I could eat that all day, beats your traditional Italian "bread sticks and water" cliché, it’s got some bite!
The Drinks were Amazing and thank you for having us!

We loved this place so much, that given everything is a gamble in the OBX, we came back the following night to dine again! This place is run by locals, owned by locals, and the staff are real humans! <3

End result: Don't judge a book by its cover, this is truly a coveted treasure that begs to be read from beginning to end. This place has some Awesome, affordable Dinners in a fun atmosphere. The Waitress Zaya was super attentive, friendly, Helpful and remembers what you ordered before! Not to mention provided excellent service and added a bit of her own class to the trip. Great experience! Thank you JR and we will be back, and that’s not a curse!

We always stop here on our annual trip to the Outer Banks. And we actually stopped here twice during that week. First time we sat in the bar to enjoy their happy hour specials of ribs, steamed shrimp and chicken wings. Delicious! Wasn't busy when we first got there, but by the time we left the bar, it was packed. Felt sorry for the poor bartender that was working by himself that evening. Could tell he was very overwhelmed with the crowd that showed up. Then we returned on Friday evening for the prime rib special. Delicious again! Not disappointed at all. They were quite busy once again, and we had to wait for seating in the restaurant area. We will be back next year!

Janice ,
We so appreciate you choosing the Jolly Roger. Not only once but twice . Thank you for taking the time to review us and for your patience with a very busy bartender. We certainly hope you’ll able to join us again when visiting the Outer Banks.
