The location was excellent. We walked out of our room, over the dunes and there was the ocean. It was a very nice beach. The room was clean and nicely decorated. It was a very good value. I gave it a "4" because it was very good, but there wasn't anything about it, other than the location, that was out of the ordinary. Our room was pretty quiet. We stayed in the shoulder season in a efficiency room. We found the room to be about what we expected as we have stayed at other efficiency rooms in the area. We had 2 queen beds, a small 4 person table, small kitchenette, bathroom. The room was compact and not nearly as roomy as the photos on the website, but it was what we expected and adequate for 3 of us. The kitchenette was adequately supplied, but didn't have everything that you might need. You might need to make a run to the dollar store for items like a pizza cutter, or cork screw. Not a big deal, and honestly expected. We found the room to be clean, but maybe not "perfectly" cleaned. There was a lack of cleaning behind the dresser and around the stove. It seems the room is cleaned in about the same way as a normal hotel room, except that it has a stove, a refrigerator, and all the mess that goes along with people cooking. There were a few crumbs and debris under the table as it was obvious that the chairs were not pulled out and the tile floor most likely not mopped. Probably just swept. As I said - it was adequate and pretty much what we expected. Would we stay here again? Yes. But we are not really very "picky" and we plan on doing some cleaning before we even bring in our bags. The location is very good. We will certainly consider Shutter for future stays.

Very nice, more high end. Great ocean front room. Very clean. This is non-smoking, but as we all know smokers are disrespectful, they come on their balcony and smoke and us non-smokers has to smell it.

If you are looking for a hotel with a good location to the beach Shutters fits the bill. The hotel was also centrally located for dining choices. The room was clean however we thought the bathroom was quite small. The breakfast was a nice touch.

I usually stay in one of the well-known chains when I need a hotel. But when we decided to take a last-minute 2-day trip to Kill Devil Hills we chose to take a "chance" on Shutters on the Banks based on the high ratings on TripAdvisor. We had a great experience! As others have noted, the rooms are nicely updated, beds very comfortable, and location/ease to beach was perfect. One thing that really struck me was how quiet the room was! I never heard any other guests from inside the room, even though the hotel seemed pretty full based on the parking lot.
Every staff member we encountered was authentically friendly (not like some of the gratuitous "friendliness" I sometimes get in large chains). They even offered hot breakfast options for the free breakfast, served by a staff member adhering to all COVID precautions. The continental options had a good variety as well.
We had an oceanfront room on the 4th floor, and the view was amazing. We will definitely come here again when we return to the Outer Banks!

I picked this hotel from the overall good reviews on Trip Advisor. And it was a good call. Location cannot be beat. Room was large and the grounds were immaculate. Front desk service agent, Joe, gave us a great suggestion for dinner at one of the local restaurants. And dinner was delicious. If we make another trip to OBX, we would consider staying here again. A very pleasant experience.
