We're here now and are meeting such nice people. Everyone has been so friendly. There's a gorgeous pond with a boardwalk around it. There's a group of resident ducks, a great blue heron...and so many little turtle heads pop up as you walk. There's a beautiful marina and a nice restaurant on the premises. We enjoyed the outdoor pool today. I'm very happy with Sandcastle ii.

Our party of 4 adults stayed at Sandcastle Village (2 BR, 2.5 BA). We had plenty of space with a separate living area with TV, dining area & table and separate kitchen. The kitchen was stocked well with pans enabling us to make eggs & bacon a couple mornings. There are stairs to get to the bedrooms - one flight to get to the first bedroom and another 1/2 flight to get to the 2nd bedroom. Within the 2nd bedroom, there is another half flight to get to the loft with two twin beds there. Note: for anyone sleeping in the loft, there was no curtain over the triangular window in that room. We had a wooden deck that was furnished with a round table & 6 chairs. There is a carport that one small vehicle will fit under, which came in handy when it was raining. The rec center has a nice pool area outside (the indoor pool decking was being re-done while we were there so the indoor pool was closed.) The fitness room looked to have nice equipment & was always being used. If I was in the area, I'd definitely stay here again.

The condos are nicely appointed with 2 bedrooms with full balls , a loft with 2 twins beds , a fully equipped kitchen, half bath downstairs , dining room, family room , a nice deck with table, chairs and umbrella facing a pond. The geese are quite aggressive so beware. We also had a full size washer and dryer in a jacuzzi tub that we really didn't use. We did use the laundry. We had a problem with the washer but maintenance fixed it within 2 days .
The rec center offered a free continental welcome breakfast on Monday and they told us what was around the area and had a week of activities . The outside pool was very nice. The inside pool was closed because they were updating it with new windows They provided towels . There was a game room , workout room and a computer room . You could rent dvd's but we brought our own from home. They had a mini golf course , basket ball court & tennis.
The restaurant on the grounds the Fairfield is decent. Large portions, most of us had chicken wings, burgers & salads that were very good. Service was slow but was very nice. They were doing karaoke in the lounge after dinner friday night.
There is a food lion not far from us so we shopped there and cooked most nights but we ate out at Morgan's twice and the Chelsea one night in downtown New Bern which is 10 minutes away. Both very good! We visited the Pepsi store , Tyron Palace , Lake road winery & Atlantic beach while we were here. Atlantic beach is an easy hour drive. We went to Fort Macon park which has public bath house and showers with a snack shop. However they do not have beach chair rentals. The water temp must have been in the 70's! So enjoyable . Our sailing tour got canceled due to a thunder storm that came into the area but they refunded our money . Over all we were pleasantly surprised at our time with 3 families in 2 adjoining condos at sand castle village.

On July 14 2012 we stayed at Sand Castle Village II in New Bern NC
The accommodation is very nice and comfortable we had three bedrooms upstairs
Our unit was clean and spacious with full kitchen laundry and Jacuzzi,
it is a place for a quiet relaxing vacation but the garden and grounds need some TLC.

Room Tip: Lake view unit

This place was fantastic!

My husband and I and our 9 year old stayed at the Sandcastle Village II condo which is a semi-detached home with two and a half baths and two bedrooms.

The rec center on the premises was great and the people working for them were just absolutely hospitable and fantastic.

Could it use updating: Well anyplace can...but it would lose all of it's charm for it's location.
It's not meant to be an upscale NY type place. It's supposed to be a place where you and the family can go to vacation, relax and enjoy the amenities...and we DID!

If you are living in a $750,000 home and want something that looks more updated than where YOU live, this is NOT the place for you...

But, if you want a place to go where you will feel VERY COMFORTABLE from the time you enter the home/condo/townhouse with serene lakes, quiet location but with enjoyable daily activities (they have something going on from 7:30 am to 9 pm) then this is the place for you.

At the rec center they have a gym, a small game room with a ping-pong table, pool table, video games, and a pin-ball machine. They have an indoor pool with a hot tub and a big outdoor pool. There is a tennis court, basketball court, playground, mini golf and plenty of trails to walk and bike. They have bike rentals (Sand Cove is the only section which offers two bikes with the rental/timeshare property...there are four sections). There is a Food Lion and other stores not far away...

It's truly a place to vacation for relaxation.

They also have a binder on the coffee table to tell you about the area...a little history...animals that may roam around there, etc...

We enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone looking for the above...plus, with what the rec center offers, you will spend very little money there so keep that in mind if you have lots of kids...oh...and three things:

1) bring you own DVD's to watch...their selection isn't that grand

2) there is NO wifi or computers in the homes...only at the rec center...reception is really hit or miss in the homes too...you can get it fine...but you just have to check out the home with your phones/tablets/laptops to see where you get the best reception for your 3G or 4G plans...

3) they have basic cable and one HBO channel...but don't expect to be able to view information on what's playing...like a FIOS "On Demand" listing which allows you to view what's coming on...you just gotta go with it....HBO was channel 99....Channel 6 for northerners or ABC was channel 13 and the others NBC and CBS were within the channel areas of the ABC network....we figured it out...and the TV programming is all different too...something that would come on at like 10 am up north might be 4 pm, 5 pm, or 7 pm down NC...

We were on a true vacation so it didn't bother me much...

Room Tip: No Room service...but they do have a directory of places to eat and that deliver...
