We stayed here as it was the only motel in town offering a big enough space for a family group, which was achieved through an interconnecting room. The rooms were spacious and satisfied our needs by supplying the basic motel amenities. The rooms are dated especially the bathroom and the main door was warped and difficult to close. I question their cleaning staff as there were wrappers and a used coffee cup under the beds, which I discovered when retrieving a shoe. An extra towel, in the bathroom, for the wet hair, would have been nice. These are usually supplied without asking at other motels. At the time the weather was appalling and the electric blankets and heating provided more than adequate comfort. If you set the thermostat to cut in and out the air conditioners were noisy. It was so cold this week that we had to run them flat out! Parking was allocated and adjacent to the room. The courtyard lights stay on all night so you will need to pull door blind down and close the curtains well to block this out. There was some road noise due to the highway being close by but this didn't seem to interfere with getting to sleep. Lots of workers stay here so each morning the alarm on reversing work vehicles was a common wake up call. The motel is conveniently located across from Woolworths, a range of specialty stores and within an easy walking distance to the main street, laundromat, banks and the post office. The service provided by our hosts was very good and they were flexible with our changing needs - we left a day earlier than expected.

Room Tip: Close to town and shops

On our trip back from Adelaide to Melbourne, we decided to break it up with a stopover. Ararat became the obvious choice, simply due to the timings of the trip. We found two motels in town and picked what we presumed to be the best after a quick drive past both. We still think that we made the right choice.
Check-in was easy and the room itself was adequate. It is an old motel, circa 1970s, and some of the fittings feel that they are original. However, they have obviously undertaken some sort of soft-refurbishment along the way, as all the communications equipment was present day.
In the end, we had a comfortable clean bed, heating, and proper shower facilities, which is all one can really ever ask for.

Travelling from Adelaide to Melbourne is even easier with a break part way across. We decided on Ararat as the perfect place - feeling refreshed enough next morning to hit the "big smoke" is way better than after a 10-hour journey. For us, it was a timely stop.

Had a fantastic time at this motel. Had a family room with my daughters for a Mother's Day weekend getaway. The motel room was fine, the beds were comfy and the service was excellent. Jason who owns the motel offered us a late checkout (basically could have stayed all day) and presented me with a box of chocolates for Mothers Day. A really nice gesture. Gave advice on places to eat, offered crockery and cutlery and had free WiFi. Nice and quiet especially for a weekend. No town or road noise can be hear in room. Will definitely be staying there again.

We, (15 older bus passengers) were looking for somewhere comfortable, clean & affordable after a long days travel. The Ararat Colonial Lodge Motel filled the bill with 7 pre-booked rooms. Together with a continental b'fast we were well rested for our next day's travel.
