I’ve stayed here on a couple’s weekend with my wife, and recently on a solo hiking weekend, and both experiences were ideal and near perfect. These are units, and not stand alone cabins, but they feel stand alone and are impeccably decorated, clean, and fully outfitted with all the needs and wants. Both times I’ve been in the Dogwood unit. The first time was during the Christmas season, and this last time during Autumn, and the owners go out of there way to decorate festive in keeping with the season. It greatly adds to the ambiance.

There are a couple of things you’ll have to accept in exchange for such a great place at reasonable cost - 1. The wall where the units connect are thin. In the Dogwood living room, you can hear every word in the attached unit being spoken. The tv on drowns that out a little. But it’s definitely something that could draw complaints. For me, I love it so much I just consider it part of the deal. 2. Cashiers and the grocery store and restaurants are close, but not that close, and you’ll tire of the drive back and forth. Buy groceries at Ingles in Cashiers and limit the need to have every meal out.

This is a beautiful area of NC. Go!

Not inexpensive but well worth the money. This lodge beats hotels 2x the price. Everything from the toiletries to the quality of bedding is top-notch. Cottage is covered in beautiful flowers and trees.

We loved our stay at the Black Bear Lodge. We stayed in the Camellia. Everything was clean and nicely decorated. Fabulous towels. Nice little kitchenette and seating area. A gem of a find in Sapphire. Convenient to hiking and nestled in a natural setting. Easy access to Highway 64.

We were on a color tour in the area. Our motorcycle fell over in the parking lot of a large hotel. They had no rooms (at $180/night) but did call 3 other hotels for us. No luck there. But one of the hotels, hearing of our plight, called another place and found us a room at Black Bear for $250/night. Now here is where my 5 star, should be a 10, rating comes in. Melanie at Black Bear offered to come pick us up since our MC was not drivable. After getting us to our suite, she called a friend to come look at our MC. He did and could not fix it. We did not ask Melanie to do that, she offered it herself. Five more stars. They are the best accommodating people ever I have encountered in the hotel industry. For $70/night more than the chains, we got superior service in a beautiful suite. True luxury. I will go back for an extended wknd at some point. And I recommend you do too. Thanks Melanie and staff for making our misadventure more bearable (pardon the pun).

What an awesome find!! Very private, quiet and lovely accommodations. Loved the porch especially. Looked out into the woods. The furniture was rustic but over the top comfortable. Even enjoyable when it rained. We were hoping to see some bears, but no luck. Definitely will come back.

Room Tip: We especially liked our two units in the rear of the building as they faced the woods.
