Show lessWhen you spend $60 for a hotel, you can't expect 5-star accommodations. The bathroom could have used some spackle and paint, and my wife was not happy with the number & quality of the towels, but aside from that, everything worked and was available as advertised. Breakfast was much better than other chains in the same market range.
My sister and I were traveling SW to view the solar eclipse. In the morning she called a third party agent (TravelWeb/Priceline) to book a room PREPAID at this Days Inn with apparent success. She called the Days Inn twice during the day to reconfirm the reservation had been received and not to worry if we arrived late because of bad traffic delays on I-81S and I-77S. We arrived at midnight. The person at the desk (a man with an Asian Indian appearance and accent) in a suit and tie, likely the manager, told me no rooms were available. We departed to continue toward our destination in Anderson, SC, ultimately sleeping at the destination in my car until our hosts awoke.
After leaving Shelby, my sister and I were on the cellphone for over two hours, while trying to permit the screw-ups to ameliorate the contract breach. First Wyndham (this Days Inn is independently owned and operated) so in the middle of the night we received little assistance. Then others, we could not be offered any lodging higher that 3-star rated (we paid for 2-star -- obviously this Days Inn was misrated from the nature of the reviews). Nothing closer than four hours away near Atlanta and well past our destination was available. We were then offered a refund -- my sister said that was not appropriate -- then offered an additional 20 percent (17 dollars) -- also another outrage. We were then transferred to a "supervisor" who was also well trained in providing no satisfaction. When I asked her physical location -- Philippines. She made that her only offer, which I as a non-practicing lawyer refused. Who is at fault? TravelWeb/Priceline (the payee on my credit card account)? Wyndham (whose online contract of adhesion essentially absolves them by arbitration brought in New Jersey) and who would claim no liabilities for the acts of an independently owned and operated member. The Days Inn (for failing to contact TravelWeb/Priceline and the reservation (which was known to Days Inn in its computer) would not be honored)?
I have placed a dispute for the charge with my card carrier.
I would hesitate ever to use TravelWeb, since 2004 wholly owned by Priceline, or a Wyndham property or associate facility.
