Our family of 4 adults really enjoyed visiting this ship. Really was humbling going in this wonderful piece of history. I could not imagine how miserable it must have been below decks fighting a war in the South Pacific. The day we visited the outside temperature was 62 degrees. The ship has been fitted with AC and it was still very warm below and this was without 2000 sailors and the engines/equipment running.

The ladders are steep and the tour takes well over an hour depending how much you like to read. This is not a place for small children or folks not able to walk without assistance.

I would go back again when in Wilmington.

It is completely misleading the sheer size of the vessel until you are actually standing on the deck. Such a engineering feat of steel and sheer power, truly is hard to fathom the ship when it was in action. That being said prepare to spend sometime exploring the ship, and by exploring that also means interacting with it as you can push buttons and flip switches. There are self and tour guided aspects to decide between. Either option you choose will require several hours but will be totally worth it. It is such a fascinating journey to see how the crew lived and worked when the ship was active. What adds to the authenticity is most of if not all of the equipment is original so like walking back in time. If you are in the area and have a chance to visit this historical gem, you will not be disappointed in the slightest.

Amazing adventure through the many levels of the ship. Great for all ages, butt much is inaccessible to those who cannot climb the steep stairs.

So much history here. Be prepared for a workout though as you have a lot of ladders to climb and small spaces that you are confined in, but totally worth it all! Self guided tour, so you can go at your own pace. A lot to see and a lot of fun photo ops.

Although we did not have time to tour the ship due to pending business, it was an awesome site to see. It makes one appreciate the service of our United States Military Veterans to this nation. It also makes one admire the quality of US Military power. We got some pictures in front of the Battleship and some gifts from the nice gift shop adjacent to the ship. This is a must see sight for Wilmington, NC visitors.
