Best sweet potato fries I've ever had. They also have great salad portions. Also has a nice atmosphere.

We love to come to The Copper Penny each time we visit Wilmington. The serum is great and burgers yummy...they were actually out of my favorite sweet potatoes fries..so not from frozen. Great beer selection and plenty of TV's to view games. Worth the trip.
This is a sports bar with a great beer selection and lots of TVs. The staff is excellent and the food is delicious. It is the menu you would expect to see - just done better. For instance Chipotle Aioli instead of plain mayo on a sandwich. Plenty of healthy fare options - portabella sandwich, grilled salmon sandwich. And while a wrap is available, in my opinion it is the bread that makes the sandwiches over the top here. Reminds me of the bread from the Northeast. Portions are plentiful and the price is very reasonable. The Penny is always busy but that hasn't ever interfered with the level of service I have received.
Had heard it was a good place to go from another restaurant manager. Lots of TVs broadcasting sports and very busy for a Friday night in downtown Wilmington. Menu consists of sandwiches, salads and burgers. I opted for a Steak Sandwich which came with a pile of fries and side of coleslaw. A big portion so food value was good. Meat a little tough but flavor was there so no complaints until I bit into the middle and found a plastic pic in between the buns in with the meat! I advised the wait staff and was approached by the manager who tried to explain it away. He offered another but I refused and just wanted to pay and go. I was given a card for a free meal and the meal I was working on was "comp'd". The kitchen staff was rushing too fast to keep up with demand and, well, thankfully the pic was big enough I did not injure teeth or mouth.
I still give this restaurant a decent rating because it was an uncommon occurrence that simply happened to the wrong patron. I would go back and do recommend the Copper Penny in downtown Wilmington, NC.
The place was almost full for dinner on a recent Thursday night. I ate at the bar and though the staff was VERY busy, I never felt neglected. I had a steak sandwich with bacon and it was quite good with oiutstanding quality of ingredients. The bread was particularly noteworthy; quite fresh with a firm tasty crust.
