My husband, sister-in-law and I stayed at the shell island resort and we loved it! It had a great atmosphere and great location. People will always find something wrong with things, but shell island was perfect for us! The view was breathtaking and we loved how they had an indoor and outdoor pool. We stayed at shell island for one night on the way down to Florida and will definitely be back in the future to enjoy all of its perks. If you want a beautifully located hotel that has a small kitchen, wonderful view, indoor/outdoor pool, and located right on the water, then book your next stay in wrightsville beach here! We cannot wait to come back!

We have stayed at Shell Island Resort for the last 3 years. This year was very disappointing. I know now you have to ask for a specific room to be sure you don't get a dump. Our room was suppose to be a "Premium Room", the kitchenette included 2 hot plates and a mini fridge (not my idea of "Premium"). The bathroom stunk like urine and the whole place stunk like mold after it had been shut up for 24 hrs. I would have to agree with some of the other reviews the water is terrible. They need to get a filter for the place. Also the heated pool was not heated(broken they said).We also did not see housekeeping X 3 days. We will try again next year as our first 2 years were wonderful. Just know what room you want!

Stayed here over New Year's. We were traveling with a 2-year old, and Shell Island offered an indoor pool (which we hoped would help to get us through any inclement weather) and a kitchenette (which we hoped would allow us to avoid eating out for all meals). Oceanfront location at the north end of the island is great, as were the ocean views from our 5th floor room.

The property is worn. The parts that we we in all felt dirty. (We did not try the restaurant, and we were happy not to need to use the indoor pool during our stay.) Dishes, glasses, utensils, and cabinet pulls in the kitchenette were dirty/sticky upon arrival, which required a trip to the grocery store for cleaning supplies. (Dish soap was provided, but not a sponge or scouring pad.)

The condition of our room was not helped by the lack of housekeeping service --- our room was not serviced once during our three-night stay, despite speaking with multiple people at the front desk several times. (When I went down to get fresh towels on the evening of our third night, the lady at the front desk first promised to look into it without asking our room number; after I volunteered the room number, she insisted that there was no indication in her system of this issue.) By the looks of things, we were not the only ones with housekeeping issues --- there were trash bags piled up by the elevator bank on several nights that were still there in the morning, including some of ours. Yuck.

I hosted a group of about 50 for a weekend conference.
Everyone agreed the food was great, & all the staff treated us very well.
We enjoyed the close proximity to the beach and both the sunrise and the sunset rocked, I watched it from my balcony!
The biggest complaint for our group was the water- it certainly had a metal/sulphur smell to it, and slight taste. We got through it, but I hope the staff fixes that quickly.

There are two main places you can reserve to address a larger group. If you can, ask for the one without the pillars, as we reserved the one with pillars. It had a wonderful view and large windows, but we had to keep readjusting seats so everyone could see the presentation/presenters.

Overall, an enjoyable experience and thank you to George and the staff for taking great care of us.

Upon arrival to the restaurant, we were greeted by our server, Dylan. He explained the brunch, beverages, egg/omelet/waffle station choices. Eggs and omelets were cooked to order and delicious as were the other brunch dishes. Dylan was very attentive and we felt well served and taken care of.

We'll be back and will bring our friends.
