Great food in a beautiful spot in the village. I have visited a couple of times and every time the food has been excellent and so has the service. The steaks are great and they also provide a vegetarian option

Stayed: May 2018

Hey from a few previous reviews I have read one would expect this place is heading downhill rapidly.
My experience was completely different, it was a very enjoyable stay and one I am looking forward to repeating very soon.
Room and bathroom were very good, cleanliness was up to scratch and convenient being able to park virtually right outside the room.
The friendliness of the girls in the pub was really welcoming.
The food was good in the evening, the breakfast very good in the morning.

If I was being picky and only mentioning so that management can act if they wish:
Main TV Chanel’s not working is not acceptable
Windows which can’t be left open at night (for fear of being burgled) aren’t good when it’s thirty degrees!
Serving hard cheese not good (3 were great, 2 weren’t but the bill was reduced)
Someone needs to take ownership, The Manager may have been there but we wouldn’t have known definitely not a “mine host” on the place.

But it’s a definite return for me, just with the obvious inconsistency seen in previous reviews I can’t as yet recommend to friends.

Room Tip: Room 1 was good

We had enjoyed an evening event at this pub a couple of years ago which was superb, so we were looking forward to staying overnight. Quite a pleasant room, although could have been cleaned better. The bathroom had cracked floor tiles and needed a proper clean. A lovely Twinings Box for Tea and Coffee looked enticing but contained PG Tips Tea Bags! No tissues in the room surprisingly. But oh the breakfast!! No juice, no toast, no fruit. Just one choice from an admittedly interesting menu. A bowl of Granola with yoghurt and compote is Not a Breakfast! This is NIT a four star establishment any longer. What a shame!!

Thank you for leaving a review, we have discussed the points about the cleanliness and this has been actioned with our housekeeping team. With our breakfasts we do offer free refill on tea and coffee as well as free toast and juices, so we apologise that this wasn't communicated to you. we hope that you give us another chance in the future.

Nice place but, sadly, let down by lack of attention to detail. Chalet-type room in the annex. Room number 7 needs a thorough clean. Obvious surfaces, such as window ledges, dressing tables etc, were OK but if you take a look at the chair, it is thick with dust. Needs a good 'bottoming' as my grandmother would have said. Tiles in the bathroom were cracked and need replacing. The only way to fill the kettle is by using one of the glasses as it doesn't fit under the tap! Breakfast menu looks fairly decent but there was no selection of fruit juices, no offer of toast, no offer of a refill for tea and coffee and no fresh fruit. Altogether quite disappointing.

Room Tip: Before taking the room, check for cleanliness.

I shall never go into the above ever again, after visiting yesterday.

My wife and I plus a friend had booked for dinner…yet there was nothing on the menu that we fancied. This has never happened before in any other restaurant we have visited. Also the chairs are extremely uncomfortable.

So we paid for the house wine and left…although initially we were charged for a more expensive wine.

DREADFUL!!!

Thank you for leaving a review, we have received only high praise for our menu and try to cater it so that there is something for everyone, sorry you didn't find this to be the case, with regards to the house wine, our house doesn't mean our cheapest, we select our house wine as the one we perceive to be the best value for our guests. so we apologise for that.
