We visited this restaurant 5 years ago and had their lasagna. Frankly it has destroyed lasagna as nothing else compares! the staff were extremely professional and the outdoor deck makes me feel like I have landed in Italy. The market is the big draw but this restaurant is a must!

We went here for a late lunch.
We found the service to be a bit stuffy.
They are trying to make the restaurant a fine dining experience.
Well it's not.
From the wooden bucket on the table holding the cutlery and napkins to mediocre food it's not 5 diamond star experience.
The only thing that makes this place seem like it's a high end restaurant is the prices.
The food is decent but none of us were wowed.
Pasta over cooked, chicken dry, very little dressing on the salad, soup cold.
The service is slow, none of the staff look happy, they all look uptight and miserable.
The outdoor seating is lovely, it's pretty with the lights and the trees, I would return solely to sit on the patio.
The food is honestly mediocre.
The wine list limited.
It's worth going for the ambiance not for the food.

What a delightful spot! On the recommendation of a friend, we specifically stopped in to Coombs to eat at this restaurant on our journey from Nanaimo to Ucluelet one August afternoon. We had a couple very yummy pizzas on a beautiful terrace, which was quite lovely on an idyllic day, though there is also a fairly large indoor dining room which is also gorgeous. Happy to report that children are also catered to at Cuckoo with a kids' menu and some crayons and paper, which was all that was needed to keep our little one (and, by extension, her parents!) happy. The service was good and there is an abundance of very professional staff at the restaurant, so I assume they are quite busy for dinner. In summary, to anyone visiting or passing through Coombs, I would strongly recommend stopping into Goats on a Roof and Cuckoo Trattoria and Pizzeria.
