“What a beautiful place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 November 2011

I have been lucky enough to stay here at the resort twice. The second time in a lakefront room - the best! The staff were wonderful, very welcoming and friendly. The accomodation was comfortable and the lodge very rustic and warm. We went horse riding and canoing out on the lake, very back to nature for me (in other words not too much for my comfort levels ;o) ) My friend and I went for a relaxing time to get away from the busy-ness of normal work lives and to regenerate our batteries. This was the perfect place for it, we took our books, our cameras andour bathing suits - the hot tub was lovely in the rain! One of my favourite memories was of the horses that were roaming in front of the main lodge - they were rolling in the sand and playing around out there having a great old time. My friend took a plane ride from the lake and said it was gobsmackingly wonderful and would reccommend it to everyone.

The only drawback to the lodge is the cost of the food - there are few choices so my friend and i found it expensive. The cost of the accommodation was fair enough, but the food made it more of an expensive stay.

We took the Duffy Lake road up north of Whistler to get there. If your car has a low chassis then I suggest going the Lilloet road instead, I drove my cavalier and on some of the roughest parts of the road we were travelling about 10 and 15 km as we kept bottoming out. The last part of the trip to Tyax is the best, the views are gorgeous, it's worth stopping every now and then (where the road permits) to take a look over the edge.

All in all, if you are looking for a get away in natural British Columbia this is the place to go. Beautiful.

Room Tip: Go for the lakefront room if you can get one, the view is gorgeous

Stayed two nights on a fly drive holiday. Fantastic hotel with spectacular views and certainly in the wilderness. Room was spacious and although it was at the end of the summer season all facililities were first class. We had a ground floor room which allowed us to walk straight out onto the grass and down to the lake. Free WiFi.

Went for a biking/fishing/relaxing trip in August. Really great stay overall and worth the drive up the Hurley FSR which was a nice little adventure itself. The Lodge has been renovated and is the right level of class meets cabin. The staff were almost perfect. There was pretty low occupance during our stay and we really would have appreciated the option to enjoy a view room, but that was not an option for some reason (even with a surcharge) because we had our dog. The complimentary canoes are a great little perk, its a beautiful lake full of small trout. I would be very interested to see this operation at full tilt in the Heli Ski season, bet its an absolute joy to spend the evening in the lodge over a great meal and beverage or 2. Bottom line, I hope to go back.

We stayed at Tyax for two nights and loved it. The room was spacious and very well decorated, the beds were extremely comfy, the room was clean and the toiletries of a high standard. We had robes which were useful in the room but also to go to the spa in. We had a room at the bottom so we had a patio which over looked the lake (the view was stunning). But it can be noisy when people are walking around in the room above.

When staying at the resort the spa is complimentary, this includes, sauna, steam room, outdoor jacuzzi etc. The washrooms at the spa are kept clean and well stocked with complimentary shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion and large towels. There is also water available in the spa and treatments can be booked at a charge.

Unfortunately whilst we were there the large sauna was out of order and also the outdoor jacuzzi.

There is also complimentary table tennis, table football, library, outdoor tennis, canoes and paddle boats. These can all be used at any time throughout the day. Activities like horse riding and a sea plane ride can all be arranged at a charge.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The house keeping staff do seem to be under staffed as they were still cleaning rooms at 5pm, which is well after check-in time.

The meals in the restaurant were very nice and the service was extremely good. They are a little pricey but the patio menu served at lunchtime is a little cheaper and is still excellent quality.

The drive to Tyax is somewhat of an adventure in itself. We travelled via Carpenter lake Road which meant passing logging trucks on a gravel road with a sheer drop at the side is quite scary. There is another service road to Tyax but it is not recommended for small vehicles as it is a service road. However, it is well worth the drive!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with lake view as these are the best.

We spent five excellent days biking and exploring the Tyax area (two middle aged parents and a 12 year old boy/grade 7) . There are numerous amenities from the expensive (flying your cross country bikes by float plane into the alpine and biking back to the resort) to the free (canoeing to your heart's content on Tyaughton Lake, or pedal boating for the younger set). The biking is rigorous, so for intermediate to advanced only! We were budget minded (but we did do the Spruce Lake bike track) and when we read that the resport was renovated for this year, we jumped at staying. Be sure to have a lake view room. Ground level is best for kids and frankly adults, so as to have the ability to walk right out your door to the docks for canoeing, fishing, etc. Food in the restaurant and lounge is expensive, but not overly so. We knew this before heading to the resort so we packed a large cooler full of cereal, fruit, milk, etc. for breakfast and lunches and we had dinners in the hotel. There is an ice machine in the resort, centrally located to the rooms. The food is first rate. You will not be disappointed. You can save a few dollars by ordering the signature burger, fries and chipotle sauce in the lounge (open till 8 pm for kids). We did not hear a peep from the campgorund down the road. The walls were a bit thin, but it seemed everyone was in bed early and up early. We had no issues at all and the resort appeard 100% full. And EVERYTHING has been renovated in the lodge and rooms. It was very luxiourous. Our rate of $203/night (add on 12% HAST, etc.) is a steal. Before heading to Tyax, be sure to talk to / email Dale at Tyax Air for all your biking and hiking needs. He is the most knowledgeable person in the southern Chilcotin area for biking (and flying, as a pilot). For nostalgia, you must visit the community of Bralorne (30 minutes away) and have a bite and brew at the Mineshaft Pub. The road to Tyax was in quite good condition. Any vehicle can make it to Tyax in the summer. Just take your time as the road from Lillowet is very tortuous.
