This was our first time staying at the St. Regis and our second time in Punta Mita; what a stunning property! Immediately upon arrival we were handed a very refreshing margarita and the general manager, Carl Emberson was there to welcome us to the resort. We were then driven by golf cart to our spectacular and spacious beach front room that was tastefully decorated, with a gorgeous balcony and a view to die for. Home for the next six days! Within minutes another member of the staff (the room butler) arrived to see if we needed anything and arranged dinner reservations and coffee service in the morning.Louis made us silver patron margaritas with fresh lime on our beachfront balcony-the ultimate in room service! We were treated like royalty in the five star spa, at the beach, the pool, and at their signature restaurant, Carolina. Here we met Gabriela, a first class server who treated us like VIP guests. We also met the delightful Juan Pierre the restaurant manager and their charming French chef who prepared mouth watering delicacies night after night, including a special off the menu dinner for our last night. We rented a beach cabana just outside our room and every day we were spoiled by every member of their team, especially Francisco, Louis, and Jesus. The first class service emanates from the top- Carl the general manager exudes a sincere and genuine warmth and caring towards his guests and he checked in on the quality of our experience regularly. On day six we were so sad to leave that we booked an even longer stay next year!As 2 hardworking professionals, this was the most relaxing, romantic and luxurious vacation in a gorgeous setting that we have experienced anywhere in the world, Fabulous memories! Thank you!

Room Tip: We are Starwood members and were able to get a great room at a great price!

The Roy Azar designed resort http://www.royazararchitects.com/ (beautiful photos of the resort on this site) is just beyond gorgeous. The Navigator that we arranged through the hotel picked us up at the airport was great it made the drive from the airport super easy. We arrived to beauty and greeted with a Margarita it doesn't get better than that. Our room requests were handled in a timely manner.
The service in this hotel is over the top. Every single person is on their game. They think of what you need before you need it. Just what everyone needs on vacation. The resort is large but at the same time feels intimate. It can also be full and it's never noisy. You don't find that at other hotels in the area. If you are planning a trip to Punta De Minta and your planning on staying in a hotel which is the only way our family likes to do it. Than this is your hotel. You will not be disappointed. The General Manager Mr. Carl Emberson runs a tight ship and he has it all covered. We travel to 5 star hotels and resorts all over the world and this is up there with the best. Just book it. You will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: Ask for a room close to an adult pool or family pool

This property has a lot going for it, but it is not quite great due to occasionally spotty service, particularly in the pool area. To do it justice, I will provide a detailed review through each aspect of the resort.

We recently spent a week at the St. Regis and we spent almost all of our time there to unwind and relax. Punta Mita is an isolated peninsula which is about an hour away from Puerto Vallarta and aside from the small village about a mile from the resort (with great places to eat), your scope of experience will be limited to the very sheltered resort grounds. It is not the place for deep cultural exploration, but if you want to just chill out, it is perfect.

The grounds of the hotel and the room were impeccable. As the hotel is only about three years old, everything looks very fresh and modern. We particularly liked the bathroom set up with its deep stand alone tub with open indoor and outdoor showers. We were upgraded to the second floor ocean view room which also overlooked one of the pools, and had a fairly large outdoor space with a sun bed and table. The king size bed was superbly comfortable with very nice linens. DVD player and an ipod docking station are also provided. Most of the resort makes use of the open indoor/outdoor design which is quite effective in providing a very airy and relaxed atmosphere. The grounds are very well maintained and the manicured look extends through out the entire Punta Mita resort area where the roads and golf courses are constantly being attended to by an army of grounds keepers.

Most of our meals were at the resort and we quite liked the food. Breakfast buffet was at the Seabreeze restaurant and it was good. You can order eggs cooked to order and there's a an array of Mexican and Continental breakfast items that would satisfy everyone. We also had dinner at Seabreeze a number of times and we were quite pleased with our meals. Penne pasta cooked with squid ink and lobster in particular deserves a mention as it was one of our favorite dishes. Italian in Mexico? Yes, but the chef is actually Italian and they also serve a number of excellent dishes such as ceviche. We ate all our lunches by the pool side and it was actually pretty darn impressive. The seemingly mundane and (what some may view as highly priced) dishes such as fish tacos and hamburgers were actually very well executed and would not be out of place in a fine restaurant. We had one dinner at their fine dining restaurant Carolina. Carolina's food is good, but is executed in a more formal style. Our culinary preferences aren't as such, but we were good with it. The only thing which marred the experience was the wine. I ordered a Mexican red and it was quite terrible. It may very well be a fluke, and we should have perhaps consulted with the waiter more on picking the right wine.

All the staff that we interacted with were fabulous and they are always asking if there is anything you need. We particularly enjoyed taking part in the various activities offered by Tony: learn about tequila, walk around the village of Punta Mita (we really liked this one), and how to make mojitos. You get the sense that they really do want to make your stay enjoyable and that they're not just going through the motions. That to me makes a big difference.

There are three pools of which one is adults only. They are very beautiful pools set right next to the beach. It was our joy and privilege to pass our days lounging by the pool (more on this later). We also signed up for several treatments at the Remède Spa and it was quite good. The spa facilites are also absolutely top notch with everything in an outdoor setting. However, given the very high standards, I would have to say that the treatments we've received at the Remède Spa in San Francisco and the spa at Fairmont Mayakoba have been a little better. This in no way detracts from the very high quality of service we received as we're just being picky at this point. I would readily recommend the spa experience at the St. Regis to anyone.

Which now leads us to my final note around spotty service which was acute around the pool area. And I don't believe it is actually the staff that is at fault, but rather the level of staffing which is at the source of the issue. We spent all our time at the Areca adults-only pool area, so I will limit my observations to that area only. There are 2 to 3 pool area staff at any given time, but they have to cover not only the lower/higher pools, but also the beach area immediately out front of the pool. They are responsible for setting up your lounge chairs with towels, bringing you water, taking your food/drink orders, bringing those orders back to you, and plus go around offering the occasional pool side goodies such as popsicles or cold towels. That is a lot of things to do, and a large physical space for the staff to cover.

As a result, I would say that it takes on average half an hour to flag down the pool staff to place an order, another half hour to get the drinks/food, half hour to flag the staff down again to ask for a check at the end of the day, and finally a half hour or more to get the check so that you can finally leave. On most days, we saw many hotel guests queue up at the Areca kitchen area to get the pool staff's attention as they needed to get one thing or another. Given the revenue that the pool side service can generate, I think it would make sense for the hotel management to add additional staffing to the pool area. To get a sense of the gold standard for pool side service, the management should spend a day at the Four Seasons Maui as it offers an extremely high bar of an exemplar pool service.

I don't want this ding on the spotty pool service to detract from the overall experience at this resort which was overwhelmingly positive. We very much enjoyed our time there and provide this constructive criticism in the hopes that it would make a positive impact on other visitors' experiences there in the future.

Our stay at the St. Regis Punta Mita was delightful and the hospitality was first-rate! We took an easy 45-minute cab ride from the airport in Puerto Vallarta and were transported to a tropical paradise of immaculate, spacious accommodations nestled amid lush gardens and tranquil pools. Our hosts greeted us with a choice of Margaritas or tea (now, which would you choose?) and our room butler made sure that we were set for a relaxing 3-night stay. The privacy of the resort was precisely what we wanted and we had the choice of dining in our room or in one of the restaurants. All of the staff were helpful and went out of their way to ensure our stay was pleasant. On our second afternoon, we took a cab ride into the town of Punta de Mita and enjoyed lunch in a beach-side restaurant. Booking through the concierge, our third day included a 3-hour trip to the Marietas Islands. The crew of the small boat picked us up from the beach and 15-20 minutes later we were snorkeling off the coral reef! For our first Mexican vacation, we couldn't have asked for a better experience. If relaxation and beach combing in a private setting is what you're looking for, St. Regis Punta Mita is the ideal get-away.

Had the opportunity to stay here for 3 days/2 nights. Fabulous location right on the beach. A refreshing change from staying in the city - Puerto Vallarta. Why? Well, no vendors on the beaches; peace & quiet at night for sleeping; gorgeous rooms, and we had a butler!!! Our favorite feature in our room: the outdoor shower! Loved all the choices of pools to swim in. I will say the pools were a bit on the chilly side! Excellent spa. Flooring is slippery, so be careful. A friend of mine fell in the showers there. Don't know why they put down such slippery tile. Anyway, we loved it there. Am sure we will return.

Room Tip: My Tip: Would prefer a room on the upper level for better view of ocean.
