Room clean and comfortable. Disco in the hotel till 1am made it noisy. The breakfast menu stated croissant (not available) and freshly ground coffee which it certainly was not! We sent the first coffee back and the second was equally undrinkable. When brought up with the manager he stated that it was made in the coffee machine in the bar -- it was clearly poorly made filter coffee. I would not return.

Had a lovely stay here. The food and accommodation were excellent and I would recommend this hotel to anyone! Brilliant location. Staff could not do enough for us.
We have booked again for Easter next year! It made our weekend perfect

Beautiful building - very quirky, very historic - although we actually stayed in one of the mews apartments adjacent to the pub. Nice apartment with double bedroom, sofa bed in lounge, separate kitchen and separate wetroom. Clean, good facilities, and offered value for money. We couldn't work out how to turn off the underfloor heating so it was stifling hot and couldn't open the windows at the front due to the noise from the pubs and restaurants in the area. If you want a quiet night's sleep then this is probably not the best place on a weekend! Breakfast included, freshly cooked to order. Staff very friendly and helpful. Do take slippers - the jute (or sisal?) flooring is hard-going on bare feet!

Although the main building dates back to the 1700's (possibly even earlier) and is full of Oak beans and character the accommodation we used was in a new annex and had all the modern facilities you would expect. The staff were friendly and attentive and we were made to feel very welcome. The private car park behind the hotel was also very helpful.

Room Tip: If you can get rooms 4 of 5 they are away from the courtyard and therefore quieter.

We booked last minute via booking.com for our 10th wedding anniversary and thought we were booking a room with a spa bath clearly shown by the photo on booking.com for superior room. There was an issue with our dinner reservation and the booking itself so the hotel contacted us. Despite the clearly listed photos for king superior room we were informed the room did not have a spa bath/jacquizzi in room - good job we checked as it seemed too good to be true. We asked to downgrade to standard room and the lady on reception 24 May had the worst customer service ever she was not helpful in the slightest. She would not let us downgrade and told us booking.com put the images on so it is not the hotels responsibility - I have since clarified this is not the case!

We contacted booking.com and they were met with the same unhelpful lady. Its took us 2 hours of phone calls on our anniversary trying to deal with the issues through no fault of our own, no room booking at Cheshire Cat, money going to be debited from account lady saying the standard £75 room had gone up to the price we have paid for the superior room. It was just ridiculous. She was rude and unhelpful. The booking.com representative said it was all very strange indeed and helped us find alternative accommodation.

I emailed the hotel to complain and manager phoned me the following afternoon I found the manner a little defensive and he implied it was our mistake. Credit where credit is due the hotel have changed the misleading photographs on booking.com and did offer us a discounted stay but I was not prepared to spend another £100 risking poor customer service particularly as any poor reviews on here are met with quite stern replies back from the management.

It is such a shame as we would have visited frequently.

I was not going to leave a review but the whole situation ruined our anniversary. We had a spa day on the bank holiday booked and wanted to book to stay somewhere near overnight to make things easy but it made the weekend very stressful indeed!
