Ate at Smokehouse Brewing on Saturday night. Surprisingly, it was not very crowded -- maybe that's a sign?? Go for the beer, the food is only okay -- nothing special. They brew their own beer in house and it can be mighty tasty. I highly recommend their cask conditioned ale. I had the Scottish Ale and it was very good. Not many bars are into cask ales yet, but they should be. It's very flavorful and fresh. It's a very popular brewing technique in England as the yeast is still "alive" in the cask. It does make a difference! Had the ribs for dinner. They were okay. But good fries! Service was a little on the slow side.

Great brewpub with a friendly neighborhood vibe despite its location on a busy north-south thoroughfare. My wife and I and co-workers eat here often. They have lots of great local beers on tap including several they brew themselves. Food is all good for pub fare, especially the barbecue. I keep going back for the Smokehouse salad, though. It's a healthy choice, but offers just enough bad to be good too... onion straws, your choice of bbq meat on the side, and a killer southwestern chipotle dressing.

My husband and I have eaten at Smokehouse Brewing, since it was called Barley’s for years. We’ve seen the food deteriorate over time so we rarely go, but going on St. Patrick’s Day for smoked corned beef is a tradition we always have it for dinner. On this St. Patrick’s day, we were seated right away. The waiter took our food and drink orders promptly. We ordered an appetizer of Shamrock Balls, which are like Smokehouse Brewing’s sausage balls but made with corned beef for the holiday. They came to the table within 2-3 minutes but upon taking one bite the center was raw and cold. I had my husband taste it to verify and he agreed. We don’t typically send back food but in this case it we didn’t feel it was edible. The waiter took them back and we waited. Our entrees came and we waited. Finally when we had almost finished our food the waiter came back and said the kitchen told them they were cooked correctly, so what did we want him to do? Obviously, at this point, we asked them to take it off our bill and not replace them. Much later he came back and said he was able to get them to take it off the bill. It was total disregard for the feedback and was concerning. This is not my first experience with low quality food standards and inconsistency at Smokehouse. Thing such as brisket quesadillas missing meat or salads missing proteins are not an uncommon occurrence in my experience, but it’s the first time the kitchen argued with me over food that was undercooked. A thermometer to the center of the ball would have proven the problem but I guess an unresponsive attitude was easier. I have given Smokehouse so many chances over the years. They make a good beer but quality craft breweries are a dime a dozen these days. If you want a meal with your brew, don’t waste your time and money.
