We had heard a lot about this Neral Matheran toy train & therefore tried a ride on the same. Its a joyful ride. Return tickets are not available. Its better to visit in winter as in summer its quite hot.

Unlike other Toy Trains in India. This route is most of the time nonoperational. But when it is operational is provides a great ride with a great view of the valley. Rail route takes approx 2 hours. By car you can reach upto Dasturi point within 20-30 mins.

During monsoons it is available from Matheran upto Aman Lodge.

1. Visit in winter. Summers are hot and dusty. Monsoons are muddy due to loose dirt.
2. No vehicles - except ambulance, only by foot or horseback or human rickshaw.
3. Horse vendors - they bother a lot every now and then asking for business. You will get good bargain in off season and very expensive in peak season
4. Hotels - Book in advance through online portals for good deals, else you will find yourself paying more and in not so good hotels
5. Restaurants - serves good affordable food, both veg and non-veg.
6. Monkeys monkeys everywhere - this is danger, they are everywhere try to snach food from you in any form. and my hurt you.
7. Safety - overall safe place and good people, did not hear any crime as such. But should be anyway careful.

The train recently restarted in feb . The tickets can not be booked in advance .they start selling the ticket around 45 mins before the departure. Prices are around 35 rs. They have first class tickets with ticket rate of around 300 rs,generally these are easy to buy
