We booked this hotel through Hotels.com and got a very good rate. We were glad that we did as it is a time share resort and there is an attempt to hard sell you membership of the Diamond Club which we managed to avoid even with the lure of a free lunch or dinner.
The hotel is located up in the hills and, although there is a regular coach service down into the town, you do really need a car if you want to get about. The grounds are beautiful and it is ok if you want to lay by the pool all day and eat at their restaurant but we didn't find the food in the self service restaurant as good a value as eating out elsewhere. Mind you Sunday breakfast was well worth the cost even though we didn't have the fizz.
On arrival, which was late in the evening, we were presented with a bottle of wine for just turning up and a request to attend a meeting to discuss Diamond membership benefits. Having been travelling for nine hours we managed to avoid committing to the meeting and got a golf cart down to our room which was on the lower part of the property.
The lower part of the property is quieter as all the animation team organised activities take place at top of the property by the main buildings. In two weeks we didn't see the animation team once down at the lower pool - they didn't seem interested and, if they didn't interact with you during the day they didn't bother to interact with you in the evening. Didn't even introduce themselves or say hello once when we were up for the evening entertainment or at the bar.
However, beware of the Massage Ninjas - the ladies from the spa are constantly wandering round drumming up business. The spa is great and I did book a treatment but even the free 15 minute session comes with an instant attempt to upsell to something else.
Our room was huge with a lounge, bedroom, bathroom and kitchen area. I can honestly say it was bigger than the ground floor of our house. It was kept beautifully clean with towels and bedding changed regularly. You are provided with towels for the pool which can be changed twice a week. There is a bit of a view and we were not overlooked.
Our room was some distance from the main buildings which we didn't mind and there is a lower car park so you don't have to walk miles to get your car. However, in the second week it was so hot that it did become an effort to walk up to the main building in the heat of the day and, what we weren't told, is that we could have used the golf cart to get backwards and forward on occasion.
If you want to do anything, either excursions or to do with the hotel, it is all done through the concierge desk. Apart from renting videos, the hotel reception team only seem to do check in and check out.
If the concierge team cannot sell you something they don't seem keen to tell you about what is going on locally. Whilst the hotel does a Greek Night each week, for better value, good food and fun get yourself down to old Hersonissos village on a Monday night. No one told us about this at all and it was only by chance that we found out about it. We had two fabulous meals and fun nights at Myrtios restaurant with plenty of free raki to make it all go with a swing.
The late check out is a bit of a nightmare. You are supposed to check out at 10am in the morning and it is €20 to keep the room until 12 noon. But it costs €60 if you want to keep the room later than that. Our flight was at 9pm and, as we had got a really reasonable nightly rate we were not prepared to pay €60 for late check out which was significantly more than our nightly rate. I would like to thank the new concierge manager for her help with this as we did come to a reasonable arrangement although the details were not passed onto either the reception desk or the housekeeping team and they tried to collect our bags and make up our room throughout the day when we weren't checking out until 6pm. If we went back again I think we would just book an extra night at the time of booking the hotel to ensure that we could keep the room and it would have worked out cheaper.
Finally, not really sure why the hotel includes Golf Resort in it's name? Yes it is affiliated with the golf course and is the nearest hotel to it but rates for the guests are not cheaper than if you go up to the golf course yourself and speak to their reception. My husband got a really good package direct with the course which beat anything the hotel was able to provide - surely it should be the other way around?
All in all it sounds as though we did nothing but moan but we did have a good holiday and the barmen were great. It is not all inclusive although you can purchase a variety of meal plans.
My usual measure is would we go back and I would say yes, I probably would. But it is out of the way and we would maybe go a couple of weeks earlier as the second week it really was a bit too hot for us but that wasn't the hotel's fault.

Room Tip: It's a bit of a walk but go for rooms at the lower end of the property for a quieter, more relaxing time.

Dear Carol G,
Thank you for taking the time to submit a review in TripAdvisor for our hotel.
We are pleased to read that you generally enjoyed your stay with us.
Please allow us to make a few comments regarding the issues that you raised in you review.
We would like to inform you that apart from the Main Pool Side restaurant that guest can enjoy their breakfast, lunch or dinner, there is a traditional a la carte restaurant with authentic Cretan & Greek cuisine as well as a snack bar that serves branch and snacks. In all our food outlets, we make sure that our pricing policy reflects to the high quality of the ingredients and food items served.
As you rightly mentioned, the lower part of the hotel is quieter as all the animation team and organized activities take place on the other part of the resort which is situated approximately in the middle of the property. This is because we want to provide our guests with 2 alternatives – one with activities and a second quieter & relaxing one. Additionally apart from the day time activities, I’d like to point out the big range of evening entertainment during the week. Cretan night with live music and dancing groups, Tenor’s live performance, Brazilian shows, Soy de Cuba show, Acrobatic show, dancing shows, saxophone & piano nights, Karaoke, e.t.c
Regarding the club cart is available, as mentioned in our web site, and had you asked for it we would be more than willing to assist you.
I am bit disappointed to read your comment about our front desk. The reception provides a wide variety of services to delight you during your stay. Except for check in & check out, our front desk can arrange for your transfer, give you important information about local sights, as well as information about excursions, car rental and / or local festivals. They can also print your boarding passes, check your flight, book tables at local restaurants and tavernas as well as give you directions so you may explore the island.
The late check out is always based on availability. Please allow me to inform you that the resort always provides appropriate alternative possibilities for a late departing guests with no charge.
Concerning your comment about the name of the hotel, we would like to inform you that according to registering and trademark organization, any facility neighboring a golf course can use the term “golf” in their name. Above regulation does not imply that the particular facility (resorts, restaurants, theme parks etc) would have any affiliation with the actual golf course, in our case with Crete Golf Club. However or resort is affiliated with the Crete Golf Club and our guest enjoy a 10% discount in all green fees.
We look forward to welcoming you back on your next travel to Crete!
Kind regards,

We rented a one bedroom apartment for our stay which was plenty big enough for 3 of us. It also had a large balcony which was ideal for sitting out on for breakfast and in evenings. Room was well kitted out although beds were a little on the 'firm' side.
Supermarket has all the essentials but the free shuttle service into Hersonissos is a good alternative to visit larger supermarkets and slightly cheaper.
Ate in the buffet 2 nights which was ok but felt a bit predictable on second night. Decent entertainment was put on the 2 nights we ate there.
Far enough out from Hersonissos and not too far from old town if you want to eat out in the evening. You'll need to get taxi back if you do that though which was about €10 back to the resort.
Overall a nice atmosphere with good facilities and friendly welcoming staff.

This place is beautiful, and we love our two bedroom unit. Village Heights has many activities, beautiful pools, a very friendly staff, and it is a gorgeous place. Tennis, mini-golf, volleyball, and swimming are some of the very fun activities. The staff has also been eager to book tee times for us next door at The Crete Golf Club, and is always happy to offer advice about places to go and things to do in this area. They also have theme nights at their restaurants including an evening specializing in Cretan cuisine. My family and I definitely look forward to returning to Village Heights. It is lovely!

Stayed in a 1 bedroom apartment. Unusual layout in that the balcony was off the bedroom, but lovely view of the sea. Apartment wasn't the best equipped that we have stayed in & below Diamond Resorts usual standard.
Resort is good with a smallish pool but plenty of sunloungers & umbrellas.
The resort is a bit isolated so renting a car is a must

A wonderful place. Beautiful and beautiful surroundings. Very calm and peaceful. AMAZING food and breakfast, a lot of healthy choices! Great pools/pool areas. Very clean everywhere. Super nice staff! It's a bit far from town but the hotel has a transfer leaving/picking up several times through the day so it's really ok. You can get both sides, the calm days and the days in town and crowded beaches. If you want to stay later than 19-20 a taxi is 10-12 euros to get back to the resort.
Highly recommended!

PS Stay away from Diamonds Resorts staff. It's not worth the voucher they offer you.
