“Interesting but quirky”

Hop Yard Brewing Co.
Ranked #14 of 20 Restaurants in Forest Row
Price range: US$4 - US$38
Description: Hop Yard is a bar, restaurant and music venue. We serve a large range of craft beers, wines, spirits and cocktails. Many that you will not find anywhere else for miles around! We often have live music on our fully-equipped stage, give us a call or check our facebook page for the latest dates. We serve Neopolitan-style pizzas from our wood-fired oven and burgers, triple cooked chips, small plates (think salt and pepper squid or miso-roasted aubergine) and sharing platters from our kitchen. All food is available at the tables inside, or al fresco in the courtyard, or as a takeaway. The atmosphere is vibrant, a mix of old and new. The venue is an old grain store warehouse and we've kept the rustic feel. The music is varied and consistently brilliant, expect to dance!

Start with positives:
Good selection of beer and cider
Venue is certainly different, I like it but it is probably not to everyone's tastes
Food is generally pretty good

Negatives:
Service is a bit adhoc, we have waited over an hour for a couple of Pizza's when is been pretty quiet and last visit we had to chase the waitress to order some food (was busy though)
Drinks are priced a little on the high side, I am used to paying a premium for "craft" beer but over £17 for 3 pints is pushing it
Food is also priced a touch on the high side as well, 10-13 for a pizza is ok but size and quality does vary on visits but £11 for just a burger and £4 for chips so about £16 time you add a couple of toppings is pushing it given the venue and service,
Finally kids, now I appreciate this is probably a good thing for many but if your after a quiet drink with adults then this is not the venue for you.

Hi,

Glad you enjoyed the beer and cider selection! Sorry that the service was a bit slow for you though.

I know that some people think the burger is a little expensive, it is made from individually selected 12 year old cows instead of 18 month old beef like most burgers. It is also served in a hand baked brioche bun with homemade burger sauce plus the lettuce, tomato and pickles. We cook our chips three times to achieve the perfect fluffy center and crunchy outside that stays crunchy for ages. All of these things make for an amazing burger experience, everyone agrees they are delicious! But it does come with a bit of cost compared to a pre-made frozen burger patty. I hope you agree it's worth it!

Very very slow service. A barmaid consulting a book for mixes and with no idea.....very pleasant but that doesn’t really help. Food choice is uninspiring. Execution is acceptable but all in all it failed to impress me. I go to Forest Row often. I think the locals will support other venues. I’m not sure whose running the place but they weren’t in evidence. A premises needs to be managed for customer satisfaction. They’ve been there long enough to get it right. I didn’t try the beer.

We love hop yard. We always get a warm welcome. Very child friendly, they have a kids menu and nobody seems to mind our toddler wondering around while we eat. The pizzas are delicious.

We found this place via a groupon offer. The offer enabled us to have a great lunch at a very low price. I had a burger, chips and a pint. The pizzas in the stone baked oven also looked good. There is decent beer on offer and the service was very friendly. If we were paying the standard advertised price I would say it is a bit expensive, but the burger was very tasty as was the homemade jerky. It looks to also be a decent venue for music as well. Overall pretty good. If we see the groupon offer again we will go back without a second thought. Without it we would go for a drink and probably share a couple of pizzas.

Slow bar service.

The chefs are picking at food, licking their fingers, and wiping hands up and down their whites.

Food delivered to table sporadically, I never realised burger and chips were different courses!

You can do much better, you need to focus on these areas.
