“Great homemade cake on the coast”

I stopped by with a friend for tea and cake after an afternoon walk along the coast and thought it was great. A quirky cafe in the theatre but as it’s right on the coast, the outside seating is a lovely place to stop for a rest and to admire the views out to sea. We ordered some amazing iced lemon drizzle sandwich cake, which came in such big slices we should have shared one and took it to one of their outside tables. The staff were really friendly and helpful, they told us they make different cakes there freshly everyday and I would happily go back again to try what else they have another day.

My wife had heard good things about the platters in particular, and we chose one coating £14.95, which I expected to be a decent amount of food for that price.

Whilst the food presented was ok from a taste point of the view, the amount given for that price was poor, especially with the inadequate amount of bread that wouldn’t go round pate, houmous and cold meats. Such a cheap addition that would make the platter look more substantial from the outset.

The rest of the food wasn’t worth more than a third of the total price at best, so they could do with bulking the overall presentation out as suggested above. Maybe even include a cheap bottle of water too.

Would all work in terms of presentation and a feeling of value. If not, drop the price by a fiver, but a more adequate amount of bread and a bottle of water for the same price would still give the owners a good margin.

Average cafe in an old theatre. Not particularily a good menu mainly sandwiches and snacks, at least this was the case when we went in the afternoon.

We encountered this Edwardian building with cafe when walking from Reculver to Herne Bay! Superb toilets, excellent friendly staff and a good snack menu for lunch. Don't expect a fast food delivery as each dish is individually cooked. Our burger and chips, and bacon panini were excellent, especially the chips! The history of the building is very interesting and various events are held here. Highly recommended!
