Went for an evening birthday meal with my wife after seeing numerous posts on Facebook that looked great. Definitely a change from my previous experience a couple of years ago.
I just to try the belly pork with crackling and a black pudding stuffing. My wife had the fish and chips which also had been pictured many times.
Service was quick, supremely friendly and informative.
The food itself was fantastic and being nosey other tables dished looked equally inviting.
The menu was varied and I understand is changed almost weekly in some way which is great if you become a regular.
There is also a good gin selection and a cigar menu, although it was vetoed despite my birthday!
The price range is good and fair : less than £50 for two mains, a pudding ( an excellent crumble) and drinks.
The place filled up while we were there and remained comfortable and relaxed.
This a place to put on the list for any type of occasion.
I should add we sat in the main bar area but there is a dinning area however we were attended to by great staff so it made no difference.
Will be back for the Argentinian steak.

Friday late lunch visit with a friend was well worth the 64 mile trip round trip from home.
From driving in to leaving, the service and engagement of the whole team was first class.
Our starters of scallops and pate got our tastebuds tingling. My main of mussels was full of flavour, great quality and sadly I was beaten by the dish and offered to my friend together with some of the chips. For the record I don’t share!!
The pork belly with perfect cracking and black pudding stuffing looked divine and I made a mental note to get back to try this!
No room for desert this time but having looked at their extensive desert menu there is plenty for every taste.
The small touches around the pub including in the bathroom facilities add to the homely feel.
The staff were knowledgeable and very personable, nothing was too much trouble. All credit to the owners of this establishment for the training and attention to detail.

We came for a meal with friends. Right from the start the staff were friendly and efficient. Three of us opted for the pate which was rated as delicious. I had hummus with flatbreads and olives. Also lovely. For mains we chose burgers, a steak and a chicken dish. All equally wonderful. With just enough room for desserts we chose cheese, biscuits and port; a selection of three mini desserts; but the cherry chocolate soufflé cup was just beautiful. All evening the service was prompt and attentive without being too much. With two drinks each and a tip the bill came to £160. Already looking forward to our next visit.
