I can't believe I stumbled on this gorgeous holiday home in a truly idyllic setting. Set in the Northumbrian countryside with fantastic unobstructed views, this traditional stone cottage on a family farm provided everything I wanted. Tranquility and illusion of escape, yet only 4 miles approx from the beach and the market town of Berwick-upon-Tweed, which is well-served by supermarkets, bistros, coffee shops, craft shops and everything the discerning traveller could wish for.
Cutting to the chase, I have already booked this again for next year only 2 days after returning home....and I swear that I NEVER book early! Indeed, I booked this with only 3 days notice and I was so lucky!
Robert (the owner on-site) was so welcoming. We're very reserved but within seconds of meeting him, he felt like a family friend we'd known for years! Fresh scones, cream, jam and milk were a welcome sight on arrival from the journey. Robert never stopped working hard throughout the week looking after B&B guests in his dream home to cutting lawns, refilling the coal buckets and logs daily for the open fires in the cottages. And what a great sense of humour!
The cottage was decorated to an exceptional standard and the beds, furniture and fittings were all high quality with good taste! Bathrooms were lovely and it is clear this has whole cottage has been renovated and furnished to a quality level that is normally reserved to your own house and not a holiday let! I want to buy the place!,
Robert - thanks for looking after us and we really look forward to our next visits, yes, plural, which means we will be back in Apr/May next year in addition to Summer too!
Can't praise Honeysuckle Cottage at Longridge Farm highly enough. 3 generations of our family had an idyllic week there in July. The downstairs master bedroom with huge, brand-new, disabled-access ensuite was perfect for my parents in law, while the two spacious upstairs bedrooms gave the other two generations all the space and privacy we needed. The cottage itself is pristine, with high-quality bedding, towels and period furniture and a really spacious kitchen. We arrived on a blustery evening to find the fire already lit and the table set for tea, with scones and home-made cake. None of this happens by accident - host Robert clocks up nearly 20,000 steps a day on his Fitbit keeping all his holiday rentals in this condition. He lives in the Manor House just 200 meters away, and so is always on hand if you need him, yet never intrusive. He was especially kind in inviting our daughter to help give his pet llamas their tea - one of the highlights of the week for her.
Having never been to the Borders area, we had no idea just how beautiful it is, with a castle, neolithic stone circle, quaint village or stunning garden almost everywhere you turn. We were particularly captivated by Alnwick Castle and gardens, Bamburg Castle set above a mile of white strand, Lindisfarne monastery and of course the stone circle at Duddo, which is reached by walking through a field of chest-high rapeseed - all delightfully Wicker Man! We had a pub lunch every day at a different pub chosen at random, each one as good as the last. We even managed a day in Edinburgh, which is within easy reach. Every evening we returned to the cottage to find the fire lit for us and watched the sun go down behind the Cheviots over the huge wheatfield at the back. This really is a special place - private yet within a stone's throw of everything you'd want to see or do in the area; a character property yet with all the comforts necessary to make it as comfortable in winter as it was for us in summer. We'll be back!
What an amazing 6 week stay - Robert couldn't do enough for us, especially the ever replenished logs/coal for the fire!!
The cottage itself is so full of charming character yet fully equipped with every modern amenity you could wish for.
One of our party is in a wheelchair and the cottage catered for their needs perfectly.
Would highly recommend :)
Very nice place to stay, would visit again, although there is some potholes on access road that need filled?
Cottage in wonderful setting with views over open countryside - perfect away from it all setting. This was our 4th visit and Robert keeps the standard very high. Cottage is kept immaculately clean and well presented. It even smells clean when you walk in. Wonderful log fires with coal and logs provided - not as in some places where they expect you to cart your own (when you are on holiday?)! The welcome tray of home baked cakes is delicious and a nice personal touch. This cottage has a bedroom with ensuite spacious wet room - perfect for those of us who are less mobile and a shower stool is provided. Tons of things to do in the area, spoilt for choice, can never fit everything in that we want to do.
