We had one of the set banquets - all the food was delicious and served promptly. Plenty of staff who were efficient and friendly. Small restaurant at the back of the pub.

Well overpriced and not so tasty. Have had a lot better for a heck of a lot cheaper. £9 per person is excessive for the very cheaply made starters. Pad Thai that came was so small I thought it was a side portion.

As a pub, the Rising Sun is very acceptable: it's an old building and they haven't messed it up, so it isn't fancy, but you know you're in a pub and the beer's good. Then you drift into the restaurant area and you have changed cultures - a bit smarter with an atmosphere that definitely feels Thai.
The menu is quite large, but the food is freshly cooked and they use the real ingredients - holy basil, lemon grass, proper chillis etc. The Tom Yum Goong had lots of prawns and not a lot of soup, but was just the right heat (ie it doesn't blow your head off) and tasty, although I think they used a ready-made tom yum paste? When it's fresh, the chillis and lemon grass are a fabulous combination, so I prefer it.
Yellow curry was also very tasty and more than I could eat. It's mild, so i'll try the red next time.
Their pad thai was good, as you'd expect!
Efficient pleasant service and reasonable prices, combined with a good pint is hard to beat.
