Normally this is a very good place to dine with a large menu and often very popular. However the last two meals have been slightly disappointing and the last one pretty awful. May have to find a new venue. The duck leg on the classic menu was so overcooked and so not at all tasty. The crab cake starter also was very fishy and not the best choice.

Six of us early on Friday evening. Three of us had the posh fish and chips from the specials board which was excellent - tasty fish cooked just right, crisp light ungreasy batter with excellent chips. Minor disappointment that the peas were a sauce rather than just mushy, but good flavour. Very good home-made tartare sauce

Nice vegetarian main if a little small portion for the price/cost of ingredients. Two pork dishes were well received.

Nice wine selection at prices ranging sensible to expensive.

Epic chocolate and peanut butter dessert which was heavenly rich and just the right amount. The rest of the desserts were well received, including an extra little pot of yummy custard.

And the staff could not have been nicer. Really friendly, chatty but not too much and efficient, apparently knowing instinctively when something was required and when to leave us to it.

Wonderful characterful building - we opted to sit in the old bit. Really impressed.

My girlfriend and I have eaten here twice and can say honestly it is one of the best gastro pubs we have visited, we came for lunch and each time we were seated and served with our meal in about 1/2 hour which was very good as it took us 10 mins to decide what to have!

Went for breakfast with 7 of us on a busy day (mothers day). Despite being very busy they immediately squeezed a few tables together for us and we were off. Breakfasts excellent, very friendly service and good atmosphere. We were so relaxed there we stayed for lunch 3 hours later.... ...lunch we very good as well.

Booked via online system which was very easy to use. On the day we received a friendly welcome and were shown straight to our table with drinks provided promptly. The meal itself was delicious. A traditional roast dinner was selected from a menu containing a wide variety of meals to suit most tastes. Portion size was good with extra vegetables and gravy available on request. Service throughout the meal was very attentive without being intrusive. Nice buzzing atmosphere without being too noisy. Plenty of nearby car parking (free on Sundays and in the evening) if the small restaurant car park is full. Prices are very affordable and good value for money.
