LOCATION: Ditton Lodge is nicely situated on a quiet road in Surbiton aprox 45 min. walk from Kingston town (10 - 15 min. by taxi which will cost you 10 pounds). Surbiton is just a small town but has actually quite a few restaurants and shops. Try "The French Table" on Maple Rd. but make sure to make a reservation aprox 1 week before. They are very busy!
TRANSPORTATION: 15 min. walk from the train to London. And 5 min. walk from the bus to Kingston. Perfect!
KINGSTON: Very good for shopping and restaurants. Cute little town, really. Loved it.
THE BUILDING: Old, but refurbished with free parking in front, hall way, breakfast restaurant and cozy sitting room. Thick carpets all over.
THE ROOMS: We had the Garden Room which is around 18 m2 - which is, as far as I'm informed, one of the bigger rooms - with french doors opening to the patio and a nice garden, an okay sized wardrobe and a small bathroom with shower. We can only speak for this room and in this room you can hear people above you - especially when showering. the bathroom has, unfortunately, a stupid feature with a ventilation turning on every time you turn on the light and it doesn't stop until 3 - 4 min. after you've turned it off. You can hear this ventilator all the way up. I believe that if you want more peace you should choose one of the rooms on the highest floor - but they will be smaller and will, of coarse not have direct acces to the patio.
CLEANLINESS: The room was spotless, and I mean spotless, clean! There are some permanent stains on the carpet, but they would have to be removed with chemicals and they weren't that serious.
SERVICE: Friendly and professional. Nothing to complain about.
BED AND SLEEPING QUALITY: The matras is very good and comfortable. My husband complained about the bed being to short, though (190 cm). He's 1,88 cm so his feet were kind of sticking out. Also some of the people (quite a few as it was going on and on) above took showers practically in the middle of the night. It kept me awake for hours. The duvet is also the bed cover. They are kind of sowed together. There's a sheet underneath the duvet, of coarse - the English way, you know, but still ... Maybe I'm picky but in my opinion it's not optimal. I don't know how often they wash this duvet, but I hope they do it every time people are checking out, cause other wise you are kind of "sleeping with" with what other people leave on this duvet. (I think I don't have to go in to details - and I'm not crazy about the thought of it).
BREAKFAST: Good and solid. I loved the freshly baked cake. And quite good coffee, actually.
BAR: There's no bar or mini bar, but you can buy beers and at the reception.
INTERNET: Free - which is much appreciated.

we often have visitors from america and elsewhere who stay at ditton lodge hotel, as it is literally a 5 minute walk from our home. however, last spring, while in america, a pipe burst in our loft at home and we made ditton lodge our home from home for 8 weeks while our house was being redecorated. i can assure you that 8 weeks is a good test of any hotel [not to mention a marriage!].

the little hotel itself is tucked into a quiet road in the little village of long ditton. but for those wanting to spend time in london, or visit the outlying areas, it is conveniently located a 15 minute walk from the mainline train station in surbiton where trains to london run every 5 or 10 minutes, and the journey takes just 15 or 20 minutes to waterloo station. there are also buses and taxis available to get to the station.

the rooms are all tastefully decorated, and some have an extra sitting area. all are ensuite. the lounge area is comfortable and equipped with, sofas and easy chairs and is a wonderful place to just sit and read, watch tv or chat with other guests. the hotel sits in lovely grounds with a well-kept lawn and lovely shrubs as well as containers of seasonal flowers scattered around.

the included breakfasts are far and away the best we have found anywhere. They are happy to make eggs any way you want them, including an assortment of omelettes, along with all or part of a 'full english' and also have a 'help-yourself' breakfast bar with assorted cereals, teas, yogurts, fresh fruit and pastiries.

Mo and Roz, the proprietors, went out of their way to make our stay as easy and comfortable as possible. not only that, we saw first hand how hard they worked to do the same for all of their guests, whether staying for one night or longer.

Room Tip: we stayed in the garden room because it opens onto the downstairs terrace. another room downstairs d...

Have stayed at Ditton Lodge a number of times and they never fail to deliver. Service is very good and breakfast just what you would expext from a proper B&B, and then some. Location is also superb, on one hand you are only 15 mins. away from London Waterloo by train, on the other, English countyside is easily accessible by car, should you want to venture out.
Room 14 gets my vote, nice and spacious at the back of the buildibg with its own french doors to the garden.

Room Tip: Room 14 if you want access to the garden.
