LOCATION: Ditton Lodge is nicely situated on a quiet road in Surbiton aprox 45 min. walk from Kingston town (10 - 15 min. by taxi which will cost you 10 pounds). Surbiton is just a small town but has actually quite a few restaurants and shops. Try "The French Table" on Maple Rd. but make sure to make a reservation aprox 1 week before. They are very busy!
TRANSPORTATION: 15 min. walk from the train to London. And 5 min. walk from the bus to Kingston. Perfect!
KINGSTON: Very good for shopping and restaurants. Cute little town, really. Loved it.
THE BUILDING: Old, but refurbished with free parking in front, hall way, breakfast restaurant and cozy sitting room. Thick carpets all over.
THE ROOMS: We had the Garden Room which is around 18 m2 - which is, as far as I'm informed, one of the bigger rooms - with french doors opening to the patio and a nice garden, an okay sized wardrobe and a small bathroom with shower. We can only speak for this room and in this room you can hear people above you - especially when showering. the bathroom has, unfortunately, a stupid feature with a ventilation turning on every time you turn on the light and it doesn't stop until 3 - 4 min. after you've turned it off. You can hear this ventilator all the way up. I believe that if you want more peace you should choose one of the rooms on the highest floor - but they will be smaller and will, of coarse not have direct acces to the patio.
CLEANLINESS: The room was spotless, and I mean spotless, clean! There are some permanent stains on the carpet, but they would have to be removed with chemicals and they weren't that serious.
SERVICE: Friendly and professional. Nothing to complain about.
BED AND SLEEPING QUALITY: The matras is very good and comfortable. My husband complained about the bed being to short, though (190 cm). He's 1,88 cm so his feet were kind of sticking out. Also some of the people (quite a few as it was going on and on) above took showers practically in the middle of the night. It kept me awake for hours. The duvet is also the bed cover. They are kind of sowed together. There's a sheet underneath the duvet, of coarse - the English way, you know, but still ... Maybe I'm picky but in my opinion it's not optimal. I don't know how often they wash this duvet, but I hope they do it every time people are checking out, cause other wise you are kind of "sleeping with" with what other people leave on this duvet. (I think I don't have to go in to details - and I'm not crazy about the thought of it).
BREAKFAST: Good and solid. I loved the freshly baked cake. And quite good coffee, actually.
BAR: There's no bar or mini bar, but you can buy beers and at the reception.
INTERNET: Free - which is much appreciated.
