Bad weather closed Mungo National Park and German offered us a trip to Yanga National Park instead. This was an excellent tour, with lots of information about the story of Yanga Station, visits to interesting sites, well provisioned with tea/coffee and food, and well informed commentary about the flora and fauna. We had the unique experience of seeing Yanga Creek flowing into the dry lake, which had been caused by the big drought. We enjoyed this tour so much, we hope to return to see Mungo.

Outback Geo Adventures located in Balranald conduct a variety of tours to Mungo & Yanga National Parks. For anyone travelling through Balranald either to go to Mungo, Adelaide, Broken Hill or Mildura, taking a half day tour to Yanga National Park which includes the homestead, the Wool shed and some lovely scenic spots to photograph wildlife, is time and money well spent. We did the sunset Yanga National Park tour which we both thoroughly enjoyed. Dinner was included which was fresh & delicious.
If you want a full day tour of Mungo National Park or any of the half day options, Herman, the operator/ guide will provide a valuable insight in to what makes this area so special. Check out his website as he offers a variety of tours to both these parks. I would highly recommend his tours. Balranald is worth a two night stopover; there is a lot to see.
