As we were staying at the campsite nearby it was an easy choice to walk down to the ‘local’. The menu choice is fairly limited but there are additional daily specials, which is what we opted for. The chorizo and vegetable broth was an excellent tasty starter followed by the lamb shank, the meat just fell off the bone, it was so tender, rounded off with a draught ale an excellent meal. All this while watching the sun go down over the bay, perfect.

Great to see the Tavern busy on Sunday night. Clean & modern decor. Family friendly.
Enjoyed a sensational Nepalese Lamb Curry - it was so good!!!

Reasonable meals, a bit on the expensive side for pub food but still a good experience with friendly locals and a kids play room on site! Make a booking because it became a little more crowded from about 6:30

I was traveling on the surf coast towards Hobart and decided to detour to see the famous Freycinet National Park . A good decision.
This is quite a busy destination. It may be wise to book ahead if staying a few days . I booked a Wineglass Bay cruise and found some affordable accommodation in the local Big 4 Holiday Park.
$120.00 a night with self conrained facilities. Cean and comfortable .
The supermarket, accommodation and fuel is expensive here. My advice stock upand refuel in Swansea or Bicheno before you arrive here.
There is basic camping at Friendly Beach free for up to 2 weeks. Bring water and food .The wildlife is interesting and protected.
The beaches are beautiful but unpatrolled.Be careful of changing tides and winds
The surf can be good but bring a full wetsuit.
You need a National Park Pass which can be bought enroute. Or in advance. .
At the Ikuka Tavern I ordered a Boags Red Ale and salt and pepper calamari with salad for lunch, and enjoyed it.
Pub grub is quite expensive in Tasmania compared with NSWand Queensland, but generaly of a very good quality
The Iluka Tavern is a clean ,well run establishment with friendly staff.
Try a game if pool in the main bar.
They have a good wine list, local ciders . These ciders are first rate.
I recommend a stop here if you are in the area.

Ate here twice this while visiting and came away very happy. Meals were reasonably priced and service was good. Close to the hostel and very convenient.
