Took our longest drive at Tasmania, arriving at Marakoopa visitor centre after some 3 hours of driving, over all kind of terrain, fog and all.
With little of daylight left, we only could visit one cave at the Mole Creek park.
Yet without a doubt, it was well worth the drive.
With a small group of excited visitors, we were guided into the cave and got to experience the wonder million years in making. It was an educational tour because the guide was so knowledgeable, he got us familiar with the various features and their names in the limestone cave.
The cave was well maintained and also constructed with the least environmental impact as possible, as such we were able to see the stalactites and stalagmites in their most pristine condition.
The walk through the cave was manageable, the climbing was not that extensive, and with various stop points, it is accessible to both young and old. The kids in the group did enjoyed themselves.
The bonus of the exploration was at the last part, where we got to experience seeing glow worms hanging from the ceiling. It was not possible to take any photo there, and besides, photo could never do justice to the actual scene, one has to be there to experience the wonders.
As the lights switched off, slowly the lights of the glow worms started to appear on the ceiling, and it was like night sky in the cave, even though the guide told us that the numbers was not as much as compare to summer season, but it was already exciting enough for us.
Very quickly, 45 mins guided tour was over and it really did made our day.
Hopefully we can returned and visit the other caves there too.
Fantastic! Just beautiful. Only a few glow worms this time of year but the caves are magnificent. Great on a cold wet day.
the guide was excellent, the history and the formations inside the caves were fantastic.. it all ended with the glow worms above you. They were like stars above you
We loved the experience of this cave. The guide was interesting and we learned a lot about the rocks and caves themselves. Compared to the other caves we went to in the area - Mole Creek and King Solomon’s caves - this was the best experience of the three, despite the comparative lack of marketing hype.
We’ve visited plenty of caves, but probably never one with so much variety. Impressive formations, Glow-worms, a great guide (Dave), and even some of the best preserved fossils from the Cambrian Explosion anywhere.
beautiful stalictites and stalicmites hanging all throughout caves..amazing to see and very informative tour. When the lights are put on, the hanging tites and mites just glow stunningly. When lights go out you will be shown glow worms that are amazing creatures.
Congrats to the staff for keeping such an amazing system going to be shared 💞💞
