After doing the Gordon River Cruise we decided to head off to see the show, hubby wasn't keen. On a very cold night, the cast handed out blankets and hot water bottles which we thought was a great idea. We had a very enjoyable fun couple of hours, (even hubby thoroughly enjoyed) hearing a further story of the convicts of Sarah Island. Lots of interaction with audience.

Ater the Gordon River Cruise we went to the see the show, t"he ship that never was". A really good night's entertainment with lots of audience participation. It had us in stitches almost from the start. An interesting part of the Tasmanian early history that is never told in schools these days- told in a most interesting format. One thing to note, is that it is partly outdoors , so in the colder months , rug up!

This was easily the best $20 I ever spent.......the two actors worked very hard throughout the entire play, lots of audience participation which made for lots of laughs. I highly reccomend seeing this show.

Went to see the play following an insistent recommendation from our tour guide (Thanks Ben, you did not disappoint!). And a great follow-up to Sarah Island – it completes the story. Australia’s longest-running play, The Ship That Never Was is a unique and entertaining approach of sharing a piece of local history. There were only 2 actors, and the rest of the characters were improvised through audience participation. It was absolutely brilliant and hilarious. A must see when you make a stop at Strahan.

The play is held outdoors under a tent. It was a cold night, but they provided blankets for everyone and rubber bottles with hot water to keep the audience warm.

We absolutely loved this show! Considering it was only 2 performers and the rest audience participation it was still very well played with the model ship and the props. We laughed to bits and had a great evening!
One word of caution :
Do not go for this show without going on the cruise or knowing about Sarah Island, you might not get the story and feel disinterested. I read the bad reviews here and that's the only reason I could imagine why anyone would not like the show.
Also, please don't expect your Sydney/Melbourne theatre show here, its a local amphitheater with 2 performers only, so know what you are getting in to
