Hotel Lakeside was built in the late 1800's but it is still just as popular today as it was back then, with considerably more human comforts like air-conditioning and elevators. This is a historic hotel, decorated in keeping with its history. (Translation - you could find a huge furniture piece in a corner of the room that takes the place of a closet.)

Each room is unique with different views and different furniture. Every room is tastefully decorated. The website gives adequate descriptions of each and the price varies accordingly. Prices are good for a prime vacation destination like Lakeside. Most rooms have private baths but not all. Again, check the website carefully to see if your room has a full or half bath.

The staff is wonderfully helpful and friendly. The public areas are large and comfortable. A huge screened in porch is great for relaxing and watching the lakefront.

Caution - there is an "Important Note" on the reservation page. Pay attention to it. In addition to your room rate, you will be required to pay admission to get into the Lakeside Chautauqua community. For a couple with a car, that will add about $50 per day. Parking is limited at the hotel, so arriving early is a good idea if you want to park close.

Room Tip: Read the descriptions on the website and pay close attention to the type bath your room comes with.

The wrap around skreened porch with wicker furniture and breeze off the lake alone is worth staying there. The room we stay in every year is always very clean and it's beautiful. You will not find room service or television and at night there is only one person working the desk, but it just has that wonderful safe, respectable (meaning everyone respects everyone else) homey feeling. We stay there every summer. The kids talk about it all year long (they are 6 and 3). We're going this Friday in fact, and we are so excited!

We stayed at Hotel Lakeside during the Fourth of July weekend hoping for some relaxation & peace. Perhaps it was due to the busy weekend, but this hotel is very loud. We were in a first floor "suite" - 2 queen size beds - and could hear everything the people in the room next to us were saying, were able to enjoy children running through the halls above us beyond midnight and also got to hear suitcase carts rolling past the courtyard very early in the morning. All of the being said, the hotel, and the town of Lakeside, feel like you stepped back in time when life seemed much simpler. The hotel has a very cool porch w/ a perfcet view of Lake Erie and the sunset. There are lots of low key activities to do - miniature golf, tennis, lake activities and of course, shuffleboard (the town is known for its international shuffleboard tournament...who knew??). If you are looking for somewhere to enjoy an adult beverage, keep looking (or go to Put-In-Bay) b/c this is a dry town. Also, make sure you check out Lakeside's gate fees - yes, all people (and cars) entering Lakeside must pay a fee just for the privilege of visitng ($85 for me, my husband & the car for the weekend) so tack that on to your travel budget.

PS - no televisions, internet hookup, etc.

This charming Victorian get-a-way is located on the shores of Lake Erie. The hotel has a wrap around, screened porch with rockers and comfortable chairs. There is a restaurant that overlooks the lake. The food is satisfactory, but the service is very inefficient. The rooms are clean and decorated in keeping with the Victorian period. Requests to the front desk are handled promptly, and the staff is extremely friendly. A shuttle service is provided to other areas of this gated community. Chimes play familiar hymns each hour and the grounds are well kept. Within walking distance are restaurants, swimming, canoeing/ kayaking, shops, and ice cream parlors. Hoover Auditorium has programs nightly that appeal to a variety of interests. For a feel for a different era, I recommend Hotel Lakeside.
