Indian Bear Lodge is a beautiful property with 10 cabins which hold between 2-35 guests. It has beautiful open fields and woods with groomed hiking trails throughout. (A lot of cabin places say they have trails, but these are nice and even kid friendly.) Besides the cabins there are two main features which are the lake and the winery.
The lake (large pond) has a pebble beach with lots of kayaks, canoes, floating trampoline and dock, all available for guests (you don't have to sign up or pay extra). There were lots of people when we went, but were still able to use the gear and have fun.
There is a winery/restaurant on site. It has limited hours but we were able to eat dinner there both nights and even had live outdoor music and dancing. The winery and music are kid friendly, but they do not have highchairs.
We stayed in the Lake View Ranch cabin on Friday - Saturday nights for mom's birthday. Myself, mom, sister, her husband and 1-year old. This cabin could easily accommodate 3 couples. Well decorated, full kitchen, large decks and nice fire pit area. It was too warm to want to use the hot tub but had the option. Our cabin was close to the winery so we could walk to dinner and enjoy the music from our own deck. We were 200" from both the winery and lake. We arrived about an hour early and since our cabin was ready they did let us go on in. Thanks!
Here's why I could only give 4 stars: Making a reservation was difficult... no response when tried booking online and then no answer to the voicemails I left. Finally got through to someone who said they'd call back but never did. Be persistent... our stay was really nice, so it was worth it! Our cabin was musty (especially the bunk-bed room) and couldn't open the windows on that end of the cabin (one let in a flood of ants and the other fell out of the frame). Each bedroom has a small shelf to put your things but no dressers/closet. Lighting could be improved. I would not let these things prevent you from staying here!
It's a casual relaxed atmosphere. The cabins, lake, and winery are nice, and they really put a lot into maintaining the grounds which are immaculate. We all had a really good, relaxing time and would recommend Indian Bear Lodge for sure.
PS you may see some dogs and cats roaming around, which was a welcomed site! The pretty black kitty is super friendly and got into our cabin once (we had to pick her up to put her back outside) and she even climbed in the car when packing up to leave! We're animal lovers so it was okay but FYI.
