Awful! My review very much mirrors markgU2387ZZ - we were on the same tour. To be called a "tasting tour of German Village" is beyond inaccurate; false advertising at best. There was very little tasting and it hardly resembles the tour description. Sheila, the tour operator, is very scattered and disorganized - arriving late, shuffling her sheaf of loose, handwritten notes, changing the tour on the fly...she seemed very unsure of what she was doing and was very unprofessional. She should be ashamed to charge $50 per person for this tour. This will be my last event with this organization. Definitely not worth the money and not a very pleasant experience.

We thought we were taking a food tasting tour of German Village establishments. Our first taste was served by the operator on small paper plates in the Meeting House. It consisted of some deli turkey with cream cheese, two slices of pepperoni, two bites of pickled beets and a cracker with cheese on it. An hour later we were given one macaroon. The next food stop turned out to be the main part and consisted of four plates of food to be split among eight people. There were two small sausages, a scoop of potato salad, some sauerkraut, a spoonful of vegetable salad, and lots of day old bread. After considerable more walking, we got to sample a small piece of fudge and a buckeye.

Much of the tour consisted of walking around German Village with our guide using a sheaf of hand written notes so that she could point out a house as being Italianate or Craftsment. Such was the extent of her knowledge of German Village architecture. She did not seem to be able to make her portable PA system work and she needed to ask directions from one proprietor in order to reach the next destination. At one point, her assistant saved her from walking past the correct street. She was quite unprepared for the day.

The afternoon ended with us sitting outside in 90 degree heat while she pulled some cream puffs out of her cooler, donned plastic gloves, and cut them up with scissors so that we could share them.

Stay away!

Thank you for joining us for A Tasting Tour of German Village and thank you for your comments. On the day of our tour, the temperature was in the 90s. I am sure that colored your perceptions.

Our tours are tasting tours, not restaurant crawls. Our goal is to put food in context of the society it comes from and how food and culture interact. We aim to give guests insights into the history and ethnic influence of the area as well as tastes of iconic foods of the area.

Here's what other guests say:
"Ken and I took an awesome Tasting Tour of German Village. We learned some history and tasted some fabulous food. Sheila is an awesome tour guide and really knows her stuff! Can't wait to go on our next tour!"---Diane

My husband and I took the Ethnic Market Tour provided by Sheila Campbell. We enjoyed the afternoon learning about the various ethnic markets in the area and their specialties. We saw things that we had never seen. Each market had its own uniqueness. We both enjoyed the tour.

I attended a Kitchen Clinic hosted by A La Carte Food Tours May 9th, 2015. The clinic was all about cake. The host Sheila Campbell was so enlightening and knowledgeable about cake!

We tasted a variety of cakes (I think 5 total!) and learned about the Chemistry and ingredients in cakes. Great tips and helpful skills were demonstrated so I know I can now make cakes from scratch and they will turn out delicious. Learned about how to make our own cake flour
out of all- purpose, how to make our own vanilla extract...

We had a range of ages in the clinic 2nd grade and up and Sheila did a great job accomodating everyone! She is an excellent presenter.

This clinic was worth the time and money - the money I will save by making my own vanilla alone!

Thanks Sheila & Ron for a great 2 hours!!
