Reserved a one bedroom suite at The Waves several months ago because we wanted beach front location. We had rented a VRBO for a couple of years but it was not available and a friend recomended this. Location was great! Duplex style right on the beach but the carpet was stained and overall appearance was tired. Not worth the price. Still enjoyed a nice stay in Cannon Beach but will not be staying at The Waves next year. There was very limited daily maid service - bed made and clean towels but that was the extend of it.

The Garden Rooms are furnished with a King Bed, a single bed and only one bathroom. There isn't a kitchen, living room or dining table. Too small of a room for 3 people to share. Don't book online. Call the hotel directly to book an oceanview room along with amenities of kitchen, living room and dining table.

Room Tip: Don't book through any online services. Call the hotel direct to book an oceanview room.

JoEllen,

Sorry to hear the room you reserved is not what you wanted. Our Garden Court building which has 6 rooms is our most basic accommodation. It is our only building where the rooms do not have a fireplace, kitchenette or private balcony, and thus why they are the least expensive of our 17 room types. We have several room types with separate bedrooms, full kitchens and either ocean view or ocean front. Online, either our website or 3rd party sites this is described as such. Thank you for staying with us and we would enjoy the opportunity to have you experience one of our suites should you return to Cannon Beach.

Great location right at the beach (some units on the beach) and right in the middle of town. Walk everywhere, but also central for trips down the coast for the day. Rooms are nice size and great windows, no a/c, but haven't needed it. Bathrooms are a little dated and could use some improvements, but no complaints about anything else. We would stay here again. This was our 2nd visit.

Room Tip: The ocean view would be great if you want to pay a little more, still not bad price though.

PAP,

Thank you for your feedback and for staying with us. I'm guessing you stayed in our La Colina ocean view building. This building is getting a full remodel this winter, and it is time as the bathrooms are a little dated. With 8 primary buildings we do a remodel per year. This year our Southwind building was completely remodeled. I hope you will come see the changes next year.

Website pictures are quite misleading. There are several different buildings on the property. Some are newer but some are quite old (40-50 yrs old) and have very few updates. Our room (lighthouse) was a "garden level" sandwiched between a carport and the trash area. There was absolutely no view, only windows looked into carport and main door was a sliding door that looked at a privacy fence and the next building about 4 ft away. The ceiling height in the room was about 6.5 feet and the bath even lower. On a positive note, the newer, ocean view units looked very nice and you are very close to the ocean and downtown.

SNG,

Sorry to hear you did not enjoy the room you reserved. Lower lighthouse is our smallest and least expensive room of the 60 rooms and 17 room types we offer. As one of our 5 cottage style rooms they were built in 1919 and while we have updated them from 100 years ago...they are historic cottages that once dominated Cannon Beach. Our other buildings were built in 1987, 1994, 1998 and 2003 and we rotate upgrades usually on a remodel of the interior one building per year. I hope should you return to Cannon Beach you try one of our ocean view or ocean front accommodations.

This hotel has a good location -- in the middle of the downtown area -- and on the beach. And we were able to find a room under $200 a night. However, there were a few downsides. I don't know what the beach front rooms were like, but we were in the less expensive "garden view" rooms. I have no idea where the garden view was -- the only thing our room and the rooms around us had was a view of the parking lot. When we got there -- our room was very warm and we sweated the entire time we were in it. There was no A/C. We attempted to open our windows to cool the room down, which was fine for a while -- but there were no screens on the windows. One of the beds was directly under the window, and I was afraid to sleep with the windows open for fear spiders, bats or other insects could fly right into our room while we were sleeping. Having a bed right under the window with no drapes to make the room dark also contributed to a less than perfect sleeping experience, as despite the window coverings that covered the window, it did not darken the room or keep the light out. So as soon as the sun came up, it was blasting thru the window onto the bed in which I was trying to sleep. Also, having a bed under the window directly facing the parking lot, interrupted my sleep as every single person getting in and out of their cars, loading/unloading their bags, or talking outside could completely be heard by whoever was sleeping in the bed. I had requested a room with two beds for two different people. The photo displayed showed a larger bed and a smaller bed located in a "nook" in the corner of the room away from the window and with more privacy, which is why I booked the room. However, the double bed room we got did not have this set up. The beds were close to each other, and one was a king and one a twin. Would have been better to have two double beds in my opinion. This room seemed set up for more of a family situation -- mom and dad in the big king bed, and a kid in the little twin bed. Not for a couple of adult friends sharing a room. Also, any person who stays here should know that parking is limited in their parking lot. Very small and crammed if the hotel is full. You may have to find a parking spot somewhere else down a side street downtown -- but good luck with that if the weekend is busy and the hotels are full and there are lots of visitors in town walking around downtown. This fact actually affected our plans for the weekend, as we were afraid to leave and drive around town, for fear that we would not find a parking spot when we got back. Therefore we ended up cancelling restaurant reservations we had in other parts of town, and eating locally so that we could walk and wouldn't lose our parking spot. Was very disappointed with the parking situation. Also, this is not a full service hotel. There is no restaurant or room service, etc. I was also under the impression that this was the kind of place where you wouldn't be able to call for something in the evening that you needed, if the cleaning staff was gone, but maybe I'm wrong. It seemed more like a "condo" set up, minus the actual full condo. But they do have a daily cleaning staff. One final complaint -- the hotel website said that pretty much all of the rooms were ocean front or ocean view -- which is not the case as we discovered. Despite all this, the hotel is well located, easy access to the beach, decent pricing, and the room was clean. There was also a mini fridge, microwave, and tv/dvd -- which was important to us.

Room Tip: Don't reserve a "garden room" if you don't want the view or noise of the parking l...

CBlover,

Thank you for staying with us and I'm sorry to hear the room you reserved to not meet your expectations. As you mentioned our Garden Court rooms are the less expensive rooms (especially in July - September) and our version of a basic hotel room you would find and most branded hotels. Of our 60 rooms and 17 room types only 8 rooms do not have a view including the Garden Court rooms. All but the Garden Court rooms have kitchens, private decks/balconies and fireplaces. Several have separate sleeping areas and range from 400 - 1300 square feet in size. Parking can be tight in the summer, especially when people not staying at our hotel try to park on our property...it is a burden of our wonderful location. That said, I wish you would have let us know as we always have space and are happy to arrange our vehicles to ensure you have the parking you need. While we do not have onsite dining we have more than 20 restaurants in a 2 block radius of our location, all locally owned and operated by our neighbors.

Greg Swedenborg
