Early 20th century farmhouse is appropriately decorated in period ammenities, with a few modern conveniences. It is an operating farm and the owners welcome socialized dogs and guests with horses. The house dogs and cats are part of the fabric of life here. The room, while compact, was comfortable enough with a good bed and ammenities. We enjoyed our chats with our host- his wife was traveling on the east coast during our visit. His dinner recommendation in Joseph ( Caldera's) was spot on. The breakfast was interesting and well prepared. It is a bit out of town ( it is a farm afterall) but only a short drive into Enterprise or a little further into Joseph. A reservation note: there is a $15 cancellation fee and cancellations must be made one month ahead of the stay- we didn't need to cancel fortunately but this is a very long lead time compared to most accomodations- even other B&B's.

Our visit to The Barking Mad Farm was fabulous! We stayed in the Seven Devils Suite, which offered a wonderful view of the peaks it is named after, and was peaceful and comfortable. There are stairs to the room, so I would request another of the guest rooms if that is a problem for you or your pet. The breakfasts were delicious and satisfying with a spectacular view of the surrounding mountains. Diana and Hunter made us feel comfortable with their easy conversation and warm hospitality. If you are looking for a place to escape life's pressures in a beautiful setting, this is it! We plan to go back for another visit!

Diana and Hunter are a perfect match to the rugged, beautiful, natural location of Wallowa valley. They have a keen sense of where to go for the best experiences the Valley has to offer. They always have the best breakfast table conversations and, of course, the yummiest country breakfasts using fresh, local ingredients.
We have visited their charming place in every season, and it is time to start over again for this year! Now we are proud to count Diana and Hunter as friends.

We love the personalized photo portrait of our dog, too!

We recently stayed here after a 4-night camp trip with our dogs. What a wonderful location to unwind after being in the car and tenting it by night. The inn is located just outside Enter;prise and is surrounded by barley fields and pastures. To the north, just beyond a pasture of bison, were the Wallowa Moutains.

Diana, one of the owners, was very welcoming to us and our dogs and we had a nice visit, after checking in,on their large porch. She told us about the pastures just down the road for the dogs to exercise. It was an easy walk to take them there and our standard poodle enjoyed his frissbee playing.for a couple of outtings.

We stayed in the Bullalo Suite on the main floor. The main room is rather small with a queen bed, but the bathroom is large and there's a bonus room with single bed that we used for as a suitcase and dressing area. It was nice to see that a refridgerator was available in the bathroom.

The home has a welcoming and warm western theme. Diana served excellent breakfasts and we particularly enjoyed the fresh local fruit each morning. The coffee was great. Our first breaskfast was baked french toast casserole with home made apriicot preserves. The second breakfast was ham & mushroom omelets with light and fluffy baking powder biscuts topped off with more homemade preserves.

On the second day, thunderstorms moved in and it rained all day. We had a great day of exploring galleries and gift shops in the quaint town of Joseph. We had a excellent meals at Terminal Gravity Brew Pub and Calderas.

An interesting and unantiicpated note is that Diana is a photographer. She has a collection of photograhps taken in the area and also does animal portraits. We had her take portraitsof our dogs that were stunning! She truly has an artistic gift and the costs of the portraits were very reasonable.

Hunter and Diana were friendly, accommodating and excellent hosts. We' look forward to staying there again! If you are looking for a bed and breakfast that is warm and welcoming that serves great food in a beautiful setting, and has excellent accommodations for dogs, this is the place!

I hesitate to share this find with the outside world for fear that they'll never have another vacancy for us, but BMF is too good to keep to ourselves. SItuated at the foot of the Eagle Cap Wilderness just a few miles from Wallowa Lake--one of Oregon's secret treasures--this B&B offers peace and quiet, breathtaking landscapes, spacious rooms, and gourmet breakfasts, all with the congenial hospitality of Diana and James Hunter. Pets (even horses and mules) are welcome, and Hunter will regale you (if you wish) with tales of his colorful adventures in the old and new West. Nearby an aerial tram will take you to the top of Mt. Howard, and the swimmable, fishable Lake--off the beaten path and not on your way anywhere--is uncrowded even at the height of summer.
