Avoid this place! Service is very poor, had to ask several times for items we had ordered. No refills ie....water and hot water for my tea. Owners presented to care less that we were unhappy.

I wanted to treat an Australian friend to her first Reuben sandwich so I chose a Jewish delicatessen. Unfortunately, the sandwich was mediocre. Also the vegetable soup was stone cold. When we told our waitress/owner, she said not one word...just took the soup, and when she brought it back steaming hot, she never said a word of apology. The only redeeming thing about this meal was the potato salad, which was good.

Stopped by here for lunch, ordered the $12 dollar Reuben thinking it would rival Sherman's Deli in Palm Springs Or David's in San Francisco for the price, but it was quite small. Tasty, with house made brisket and sauerkraut, but not worth the price tag. The potato salad was good and my sister's blintzes looked yummy. The server (owner? A little gruff) forgot my drink, but I had water so it was ok.

When we entered this diner, we were greeted with droll humor from the owner. We decided to come on in, in spite of the high prices on the posted menu. Bantering over milkshakes turned into extreme disappointment when the food arrived. The chalkboard sign proclaimed that reubens were available, but when ordered, we were told they were out. The owner/wife suggested pastrami instead. My husband agreed to that, and was brought something that looked like grayish roast beef and tasted terrible. The server acted like he was an idiot for asking about it, and insisted it was pastrami. Maybe it was, but it was awful. I ate a cheeseburger that was mediocre, but at least not awful. The milkshakes were good, if you don't object to spending $6 for one.
Then trying to get an receipt at all, much less an accurate one, was like pulling teeth. There must be some place better to eat in Jacksonville, Ore.

On our travels around Ashland, we decided to take a trip to surrounding areas. Jacksonville is a quaint town worth a stop. Since we always need gluten-free options, we saw an advertisement for MacLevin's and were shocked to find a totally accommodating menu! We were also shocked to find a New York style deli in the midst of a really, really small town! Fun diversion and great GF Ruben!
