We try to book some kind of tour on our first 1-2 days in a new city and for Portland, we booked a bike tour. Honestly, everything was done very well and we really enjoyed the tour that Daniel did. We felt that we got a good general tour of the city with some fun details filled in on what makes Portland...Portland. It was a very easy bike ride - less milage then advertised. Daniel did a great job of making sure no one was left behind and waited until everyone arrived until starting to talk about a certain place.
Toward the end of the ride, we were asked to review on Trip Advisor, and encouraged to tip with a side/funny comment. Another comment about tipping was made once we got back to the shop. After chatting for a few minutes with the staff, I moved to walk outside with the intention to discuss tip amount with my wife, though before we got to the door, we were told that if we didn't have cash, they could help us with apple pay or another way to send cash electronically. After being asked/reminded 3 times for a tip, we were done and left without tipping at all.
I definitely understand the rationale behind tipping and my wife and I usually tip very well to members of the service industry, but bottom line is that we tip for excellent service, not for being repeatedly asked/harrassed.
Our rating is entirely based on the experience, which was great, but the persistent requests at the end of the tour turned it into something that was not so exceptional.
