Had dinner with friends after hearing from other friends that they had the best food in Salem there recently. We found the food average, not bad but not memorable. Service was excellent and the setting has a cozy ambiance.

This restaurant, located in what was formerly a country store, is a 10-15 minute drive from downtown Salem, located at a point on River [the Willamette] Rd. S., just at the point where the last of the city's built up areas begin to fade into the pastoral beauty of Oregon's countryside. Getting there, as they say, is half the fun, for the drive itself is very interesting. There is ample free parking here, but it is necessary to exercise caution when either entering or exiting the two entrances as they are both located near blind curves. Once inside, you are greeted by some very friendly people and a pleasant, relaxing decor just bordering on the luxurious. The menu selections are extensive and quite impressive, well balanced between meat and fish dishes (vegetarian options as well) and with some very creative preparations and presentations. And GOOD, oh so good! On latest visit, I had a delicious concoction of Pacific Ling Cod (not to be confused with the oily Atlantic cod) on a bed of saffron rice and spinach with a strawberry glaze. Their scallops are also highly recommended. Good bar and a very extensive wine list with many by-the-glass options. Prices are well in line with cuisine of this order. Overall, one of my 2-3 favorite restaurants in the Salem area.

We have been eating here for several years. It is close to home, quiet in the dining room and has a great bar area where it is a little more robust. And the most important, very good food. They have a great hamburger that my wife and I both got. She added blue cheese and mushrooms and I added bacon. We shared a wedge salad and I included a glass of wine. Everything was great. Owner came around and chatted for a few minutes.

Main reason for doing another review was we ate at Outback with friends the night before and spent $48 and had a less than average meal. We ate at Robert's Crossing tonight, had a great experience, left a larger tip and spent $47.00, and took food home.

Doesn't make sense to drive to the other end of town for a poor meal, when you can have a great meal with great service so close to home.
