We have been to Ski Liberty every winter for the past 10 years and love it. The staff is very friendly and the facilities are top of the art. The slopes are challenging and varied enough to keep you coming back for a snow day, even if you are an advanced skier. The Children's Learning Center (CLC) is fantastic, and Liberty's snow making capabilities are excellent. If you have young children consider enrolling them in a day camp at the CLC. The advantage is that the children will have the same instructors for two 2 hour classes in the morning and afternoon, and progress much faster than if they take individual one hour classes with new instructors who have to get to know them each time. Lunch and skis are included in the very reasonable rate. I enrolled my daughters in the CLC for 3-5 days each year starting at age 5 and they quickly became avid double black diamond and mogul skiers. They know all the techniques and are very safe on the slopes. There is plenty of food on site, and there are many places where a non-skier can hang out, plug in, and work or read a book. If you are a good/decent skier, consider going to the back of the mountain and staying there all day. The lines for the ski lifts are much shorter. There is a small restaurant, and they offer free water and hot cocoa throughout January on that side of the mountain. The front of the mountain is more suitable for beginners. Lines are rarely really long, even on weekends. After 4 p.m. the crowds really thin out. The slopes are lit, so you can ski safely well into the night. We usually come for the day, and when we stay overnight we tend to stay in Gettysburg, which is nearby and much cheaper, but the resort on site is lovely and comfortable. Tips: Check the live cams ahead of your trip to review the snow conditions. In our experience lines are never so long that it is worth purchasing your lift tickets ahead of time, but if you plan to ski at least 6-8 times, do purchase an advantage pass before October 31 to receive a 40% reduction in lift and rental rates.

This is what happens when you are the closest resort to a large urban area with little competition.
I came here a few times to have my kids taking classes, but this is too much. Quality of teaching in beginners classes became really low, prices are up, teachers do not even remember students names. And very limited personal touch / flexibility, to the point of rudeness. It seems nobody is having fun. I feel like a cash cow.
Don't come unless you are really really desperate to ski and don't have time to go a little further away....

Have not been to ski liberty in years and so glad we decided to go back the newly remodeled lodges were beautiful!! The place to stay is the main lodge or the fairway hotel. To be honest the alpine lodge is the original place and still a bit rundown. The staff was very helpful with everything from check in to help with our bags to anything else we needed.. the eagle and the owl restaurant was great for dinner and breakfast the next day!! Skip Ike's chop house totally not the fine dining experience we we're looking for on our second night but I do not want to tarnish the entire review for one bad experience. Over all the stay skiing spa and food was great!! Best part was if you want to come stay do it all and not have to leave this is the place for you! Will go back and choose over any other ski places near them and we have been to them all

We have stayed at Liberty before, and found the stay very good. This review is of the resort experience.
We are "unfortunate" to only be able to enjoy skiing in early season, due to work and other schedules. But a huge shout out, and kudos, to everyone working at the resort to make the snow, skiing, and fun happen!
Skiing over the MLK weekend, in dubiously forecasted weather, was very good. The resort was not crowded (due to bad weather forecast perhaps), but all trails were open, all lifts were open, there was snow and plenty, and no lines.
Our kids ALWAYS enjoy the ski camp, even if our oldest (8-yo) is already an expert double-black-diamond skier.
This is a small mountain, but with plenty to offer. We are well-traveled skiers, this is our go-to (1.5 drive from DC area) and weekend stay place for skiing.
Thank you all who are working so hard to put the snow on it!!!
Oh, and for other things - the hotel, and the restaurants - oh, they are very good. the addition of newer restaurants are yet another notch up - and something to please the food, beer, or wine enthusiast (craft beers are super at the Eagle and Owl!). There is a new ice skating rink, and other grounds' improvements.
Do not come here, because we want it all to ourselves!!! :-)

Liberty Mountain Resort is conveniently located 10 minutes from Gettysburg and close enough to Annapolis, Baltimore and DC for a day trip.

We called to inquire about lessons for a 5-year old and were told about the children's ski camp. It wasn't bad (about $135 for camp and equipment I think) for a 4-hour camp.

We dropped her off (anytime after 1 for afternoon session) about 1. The group lesson (there were 8 in her class) was 2 hours and they took care of getting their equipment. After the 2 hours they asked if she wanted to practice more and my daughter said yes... she stayed til 5. She loved it and we are definitely going again.

My 19-year old has been going to Liberty every winter and learned to snow board there.
If you want a good, convenient place to ski or board consider Liberty Mountain Resort (or as we call it ski liberty).
