My husband and I spent 4 days at Deerfield. I had been there about 10 years before. I remembered loving it (and losing 5 pounds). This time, my husband came along because he is too ill for me to leave at home. I thought he would at least make it to meals but he ended up staying in bed literally the entire visit. It was the most caring, supportive, healing experience I've ever had. I can only begin to describe how everyone, staff and guests, went out of their way to take care of both of us, physically and emotionally. I was surrounded by (mostly) women -- some of whom had been through similar experiences. Every single person asked about my husband every day, at every meal. After being an isolated, 24/7 caregiver for over 2 years, I felt like my soul was getting a spa treatment! The staff (Linda) even arranged for him to get a reiki massage in the room, which to my amazement he actually loved. I took classes, went on a hike, sat and talked to people at (DELICIOUS) meals. And the chef was so kind -- my husband wasn't eating anything but the chef persevered until we found a smoothy he could tolerate, and they left a quart of it in the fridge so I could go get it whenever he was willing to take some. My son also surprised me and came to visit from NYC. The staff was so kind about preparing meals for him, and for both of us to take back to eat in the room. Also, Anne Marie, the "mermaid trainer," happened to be there while we were, and she's a very special spiritual guide (and physical trainer -- her pool workout was amazing!). Every single person there, staff and guests, made our visit the most healing experience we've had on this sad journey. If they could make us feel as good as they did, just imagine how they make healthy people feel! (No, don't imagine. Make a reservation today!)
