We decided to once again make the trek to Mount Union, PA, and climb up the iconic 1000 steps. We knew about Top's Diner and decided that that would be the perfect place to grab nourishment prior to the hike. Great menu and friendly staff made this breakfast the perfect stop. Can't want to stop again!!!

Stopped at the dinner for lunch the food was not that great the fries were soggy and the sandwich was greasy. With very little taste. On my way home I got sick. it wasn't a pleasant meal.

The reviews led me to think it was going to be GREAT. it was barely adequate. The welcome was lukewarm, our wait help was terrible (forgot orders, didn't pay us much attention, we had to go up to her three times for salad, a cup of tea, and dessert). The food did not make up for the service. The server forgot the salad, and when it came the raspberry vinaigrette was horrible. Some sweet syrupy goopy stuff. I was thinking light vinaigrette with a touch of raspberry. I had liver (cut very thin and overcooked) with onions. H had meatloaf sandwich. He was happy. The pie was okay. The place has some good ideas (leave a dollar for a cuppa coffee for a cop, feed the hungry, etc.) but the food is mediocre. Good ideas, execution suffers.

This place was several miles away from the hotel but worth the drive. We both had their signature meat loaf with stuffing and mashed as the side. The menu said it used the same recipe for over 50 years and it was very good. They gave is large portions, I wasn't able to finish mine and gave a large portion to my travel partner. We ordered desert to go and got carrot cake which we split later that night. The size of the desert was a little skimpy but the dinner was alot for the price. Looking around you can see a lot of locals eat here and their meals looks ample as well. They have a nice policy that allows you to pay it forward by donating a $1 toward coffee for someone who can't afford to pay or to go towards a meal for the local/state police.
