There were eight of us. There were at least five spelling mistakes on the specials board but the corrections were taken with a smile and the service was efficient and friendly. The food was well presented and we enjoyed it. The table we ate off was unhygienic with grease and crumbs in the cracks. Even the house wine was exorbitantly expensive which was a pity as the food was reasonably priced.

I had dinner at the Lamb one evening. I had high hopes as I had seen the menu & the food sounded good. However, there is very little choice if you are lactose intolerant. I ended up having a smoked salmon salad, which was not at all filling as a main course. It consisted of smoked salmon, lots of green leaves, a little beetroot & citrus fruit. I appreciate that smoked salmon is not cheap, but it was overpriced for what it was.
Three of our party had the fishcakes for their main. They had 2 enormous fishcakes each, not far off the size of a tennis ball. No one was able to finish these due to their size.
Overall we felt disappointed by the food, which was somewhat overpriced for what you got (apart from the fishcakes).

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We do offer 8 dishes along with some on our specials board that are lactose free and we can usually adapt a few of our other dishes for you so I am unsure as to why you were not offered this on the day. I have passed on your comments re portion size of fishcakes to our kitchen team.I do hope that you will come back and dine with us again.

We popped here for a quick drink on a recent trip to the area. It’s a really great location, we sat outside in the garden and was lovely and quiet. Also they had a great selection of non-alcoholic drinks which was really useful for us.

This wasn't the location I was looking for but it was a great find. The road network is good for the area and Longleat and other places are not far. The village is charming and whilst we were there, scarecrows were hiding in plain sight which was a good excuse to walk up and down the village taking photos of them and picking our favourite!
The room has been furnished to a high standard including air. con. in a shabby chic style and a beautifully comfortable bed and a small settee with huge TV. Water, tea and coffee are available and on the first night homemade cookies.
Dinner is more expensive than we would expect to pay in a pub, but it was delicious (except the chef forgot to include the asparagus in my slow cooked lamb) and the highlight of the stay. The Angel (pub) opposite charges similar prices, so it is average for the area. My husband had the chicken and leek pie and we both had the pannacotta for dessert. The bar prices were lower than we expected so 2 x 2 course dinner and 3 drinks came to £52+. Breakfast was very good with freshly cooked interesting dishes on top of cereals, bread, fruit, pastries and juice. The place was very clean and a warm welcome and friendly service.
The less perfect things were a fly and wasp in the restaurant over the weekend, the creaky floorboards and the slopping and low ceiling in our room (12). Tell the hotel in advance if you are not able to climb uneven stairs or if you are taller than 5ft 10. We were OK and it didn't spoil our stay. We will return to stay here.

Mid week trip away staying overnight and eating in the restaurant. Service was reasonable for evening meal as the football was on whilst eating. Unfortunately the wrong starter arrived and had to be replaced which meant that we ate this part of the meal separately. Main courses arrived Ok
At breakfast the next morning, very slow service waiting for 30 mins for a full English some of which arrived hot and some cool.
Not as good as last time we stayed here and clearly a change of ownership in the meantime, doesnt seem as good as previously

Dear Angela R,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. As per my response to you on Bookings.Com please accept our apologies for the incorrect starter. I am surprised at your comment with regards to change of ownership as that was over 4 years ago and as you can see from previous reviews our restaurant feedback is positive.
