We recently booked into their Restaurant for a work night out for 20 Nurses from a local Hospital. Where would you start, I would say one could forgive everything ( slow service and being told @ 9.45pm that we would need to go downstairs to the Bar if we wanted another drink, yes 9.45) if the "FOOD" was not so terrible. I have been here before many times for lunch and always found the food very good and needless to say the view is fantastic, so I suspect the Chef called in sick on last Thursday Night and a barperson ( who had no idea how to boil an egg) stepped in. Out of the group of 20, 2 said the food was OK and about 6 said it was bad and the balance said it was TERRIBLE. Needless to say we had many differant courses from the menu, so its not like one item was off. A few said they had been to Dinner there recently and the food was very poor that night as well ( I did ask them why they had not warned us & we would have booked another place). I can't for the life of me understand how you can hope to serve such poor food & give poor service and expect to stay open. Who would ever go back when there are so many wonderful places to eat locally ???????????? Most say the DESERTS were great but then again all someone had to do was put them on a plate. Mick.

Room tip: I have no idea what its like to stay in but if you stay, EAT SOMEPLACE ELSE.

We had yummy crumbed oysters for entree, followed by Delicious flathead tails, salad and chips for dinner. Lovely light non greasy batter, delicious fish ... Kid friendly, great view, friendly staff. :-))

With a last minute booking (same day) for 6 adults and 7 children. Our request for window seat tables were accomodated. Thoughtfully made into two : adults table and a kids table
We were able to run a bar tab for drinks. Ladies happy with small selection of bubbly, 'Mumm' well priced. No more than bottle shop price.
Good selection if beers on tap and by bottle.
Children's meals at good prices and great selection all came with chips and salad.
Although one meal was 'forgotten' in order it was quickly made and served and we weren't charged for it either.
Oysters were delicious. Kids devoured 1/2 doz kilpatrick.
All in all a very enjoyable dinner!

Fantastic views and a warm fire are completely wasted against a backdrop of absent staff, poor wine list, no bar food (vending machine the only option) and a mausoleum like atmosphere. Sadly most of town is firmly shut on a Monday night :-(

Check in was friendly, entertaining but chaotic as we were booked in by a cook. Nevertheless, the friendliness made up for any downside! The room was sizeable, clean and had tea / coffee facilities. No wi-Fi available, no safe in the room either. Location was good and has a bar attached. As long as you are 40+ the bar will appeal, there were no younger folk in there and very few women the bar was predominantly all male but we still enjoyed it. We also ate in the restaurant upstairs and the two seafood meals we had were excellent. Overall a very good budget hotel with everything available on site should you need it and only a 100yd walk from the town centre if you want to try somewhere else.
