The aviary is always fun for an afternoon regardless of your age! The penguins are adorable, the tropical room is fun, and the massive birds are so cool. The only downside is that it goes by too quickly! You can do the whole thing, taking your time, in an hour.

The National Aviary is a real treat for fans of feathered animals. From small songbirds to large raptors, visitors can get up close and personal to some of this planet's most interesting species.

See and feed, all the crazy looking birds. Discounts if you belong to other zoos over 50 miles away. If it's warm walk around the block and get a snowcone at Gusie's and Yaya's

We wanted to see something different and although we missed the baby sloth (who only comes out at 12:30) it was still fun. The penguins were very amusing as were all of the birds. Even though the place was crawling with screaming kids and ours are older we all enjoyed a few hours learning about the birds. Be warned though even after admission they try to sell you all sorts of experiences, that kinda stunt because admission was $15 a person as is.
