A lovely historic restaurant/bar, on the mezzanine level of this beautiful hotel. Service was friendly and prompt.

Among the nicest of physical settings, a classy old place, lots of wood. As far a being a bar though - zero - they had lost their liquor license temporarily. I had a hamburger, it was ok, the ice tea was fine too. Maybe another time

We were told there was a new menu and the friendly bartender was right about the burgers. We had a great time and a guy was playing the piano.

Went on a Sunday for lunch before an afternoon concert. Ordered soup and sandwiches, they were cheap and fresh. Bartender got my order wrong but he made good cocktails.
Went back for coffee and dessert, different bartender but still overworked. This place needs help!

This is no longer "Melody's" - it's now "Abe's". I'm not sure what Abe Lincoln would have thought about the name if he were to read my review.

When a hotel chain advertises on concert tickets for the local Santander arena, they need to provide the manpower to staff the place on the evening of said concert. Then again, if you're a corporation like Wyndham, you don't bother, and just overwork the meager staff you put on duty. It's obvious you don't give a darn about your customers or repeat business. I suppose you can just write off the loss. Well, your LOUSY service almost ruined the evening of about 35-40 people. Almost.

We purchased tickets for the Tony Bennett concert around the corner, booked a room. Had to cancel the room, but decided we would eat at the bar anyway before the concert. BIG mistake. BIG. Did I say BIG MISTAKE?

The bar was packed, as you would expect. Packed with senior citizens in fancy dress wanting to eat. While all the time, loud rock music was blasting into the bar. To the Manager: First, think about your clientele, and who is playing around the corner - WHERE YOU ADVERTISED. Put something else on. Especially when requested to by the clientele.

Then, the bartender (who told us he was working three hours after he was supposed to be off) was all alone in this mess of people. He could not keep up. People were ordering dinners, people would come to the bar, stand or sit for 20-30 minutes and leave because they were not being served or refilled. We heard people swearing as they left...and not just because they weren't being served.

You see, Because of the location of this particular hotel, and the fact that it was Saturday night, getting food elsewhere in this part of Reading is entirely difficult. The downtown rolls up its streets at night, and it is not in a particularly safe neighborhood to begin with. What 70-80 year olds do YOU know - IF they are in good physical shape - who can walk 10-15 blocks somewhere to get something to eat? Much less have to walk BACK before a concert, and do it all in an hour's time, since you've wasted at least an hour of their time already, making them wait an hour+ for two sandwiches? OH - and, do you think they feel safe walking around this part of Reading in the dark? Have some RESPECT for your customers!

The Tony Bennett concert was NOT cheap, tickets were $150 apiece. These patrons were not going to just order a beer and hang out. They were there to eat. They would have spent a good bit of money had they been able to. And at 7:45, the bar totally emptied out because EVERYONE was there for a pre-concert meal/drink.

This was TOTALLY unacceptable. We were told "we just made dinner for 168 people" - well, waaah for you, let me play you sad violin music. Your having more business than you can handle is NOT the problem of the customers in the bar. That is the problem of MANAGEMENT.

Management at this hotel STINKS. And when you advertise, you back it up. Wyndham, you deserve the loss of business from my review and anyone else that puts one on here - oh, wait, you think it's ok to stiff senior citizens, right? They don't know how to use the internet? FAIL. If this is "service" from Corporate America to the paying public, we'll buy elsewhere.

Oh, and your wine list stinks.
