We stay at La Quinta properties across the country since we travel with 2 Labrador Retrievers. This is by leaps and bounds the best property we have stayed in. The renovation is complete and maintained beautifully. When traveling the Eastern Seaboard, we will plan our trips to include a stay at the Durham property.

A friend asked me along for a trip to Charleston They had biked a la Quinta which was next to a marina. I had heard that la Quinta as eh or not very good. Well the room was ok in appearance but smelled funny like stinky shoes unless we sprayed it with lots of perfume frig didn’t work. The bathroom was like out of a gas station. So gross. The hairdryer smelled like it was going combust at any second
Too bad because it’s close to downtown and in the water. Beautiful setting.

La Quinta Inn was the best affordable option for our family and one pet dog. Due to the length of stay the hotel set us up with a small refrigerator and microwave. The 4th floor room was perfect and the two elevators quickly moved us up and down the building. Parking immediately adjacent to the hotel is a small challenge but there are loads of parking in the adjacent parking lot. Breakfast closed at 9 a.m. so it's always busy but staff keep the food coming and coffee was always hot. The food offered was so so and of the four breakfasts we visited during our stay, bananas seemed to be a premium fruit as they could only be found (by me) one morning. The hotel is but a 10 minute DRIVE to downtown Charleston and walking to town is impossible but there are many nearby residential streets for dog walking but do not trek on the Porter-Gaud School property. Unfortunately the bedroom windows don't open and we couldn't catch the sound of the adjacent boat masts and lines clinking nor smell the fresh smell of the waterways (maybe it's not so nice smelling in the hotter summer ...). Landscaping was nice for the time of year but the crews begin early with their leaf blowers - perhaps earlier than 8 a.m. We'd recommend it again because the staff are very pet friendly too.

Room Tip: Rooms along the marina have nicer views unless you enjoy watching the trucks and cars on the bridge and highway from the other other side.

As usual one of the draws to the La Quinta chain is their liberal pet policy. This does not always assure you reputable accommodations. This particular La Quinta was in a good location directly adjacent to Charleston with easy access. The property appears to be well maintained. Rooms were standard fare and clean. We made some additional requests of the evening staff and they were more than accommodating. Very reasonably priced for being right there in Charleston. A recommended property when you're in the area with your pet.

Room Tip: Stay in the Main Building.

Pretty spot by the marina with a California Dreaming Restaurant within a short stroll. The room was a good size and the bed very comfortable. The hotel is in two sections we were in the motel part and had no problem parking the vehicle. We were about 8 minutes from downtown. You can easily drive in and park all day in one of the parking stations for $16 maximum. There is a free shuttle that connects all the parking stations and attractions.
