We love this resort! It's Disney without all the hype of the parks! It's the quality you expect from Disney with well maintained buildings and grounds. The staff are wonderful. We have been in the spring and we've been there for New Year's Eve and have never been disappointed. The beach house makes it all the more special.

Full disclosure; I am lifelong Disney fan and a 20 year member of the DVC. My beloved wife and I have been to this resort on several occasions and it just keeps getting better. Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort is something special. The resort is 20 years old, but it presents as brand new. To me staying at this resort is about relaxing, but if you choose they offer many activities for your enjoyment. The resort only offers a counter service for meals at the resort proper and the beach house, but this is because Hilton Head Island offers many culinary delights. The staff here is well steeped in Disney tradition and will offer you a first class experience at this low country resort.

This beautiful resort is located on a salt marsh in Shelter Cove on Hilton Head Island. Our room was in the main building
, the Inn. The studio was plenty of space for two people, and the kitchenette was handy to have. Our balcony was bigger than the ones in the other buildings (two rockers and a table for four) and partially covered. Every morning free coffee and tea were served in the lobby and a hot cider and lemonade are served in the afternoon with cookies.

The hotel was built around the trees, so the property is shady, with Spanish moss hanging from all the trees. The resort has lots to offer - activities, including campfires, nature walks, kids activities, poolside activities, and bike and kayak rentals. The main building has a nice lounge room on the first floor with a pool table.

While not on the beach, they do have a really nice beach house, which has a pool, a quick service window for lunch and access to the beach. There is a nice lounge and shower facilities available. It is about 1.5 miles away from the resort and very easy to bike to. There is limited parking and they do have a free shuttle to it from the resort.

The resort does not have a restaurant, but offers quick service meals for breakfast and lunch at Tide Me Over, and has a small store. You can buy a refillable mug there for soda and coffee.

There are lots of restaurants and shops nearby, many of which you can bike to. Shelter Cove is within walking distance and has several restaurant choices. Many restaurants offer a discount on your bill if you show them your room key. There is a Kroger close by, as well as a Walmart if you want to stock up supplies in your room. You can also head down to Savanah - it’s about an hour away and the historic district is a great day trip.

All the cast members are wonderful! They always greeted you when walking by and would stop and chat with you.

If you arrive in the afternoon on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, make sure to stop at registration and say hi to the resort’s mascot, Shadow. She is a super sweet dog who loves belly rubs!

This was our first time at this resort. Of course it was super clean and had great amenities. My husband and I went for our anniversary trip in mid October of 2017. Rates are better than peak times. Also not many kids - I don't mind kids - but a little concerned as it was an anniversary trip. We chose Disney because it was different and always enjoy their quality. I was pleasantly surprised of the location. It is in Shelter Cove. We were upgraded to a 2 bedroom villa on the marsh. Beautiful views and very large porch to enjoy it from. LOVED this location. So easy to get in and out and around the island. Previously, we stayed inside Shipyard at a large resort and it took so much time to get to our rooms from the parking lot and back and forth. At Disney's resort - your car is very near the room and you can literally walk across the marina to restaurants and the "mall" is also within walking distance. There is a wonderful pool on property and a beach club just across the way in Palmetto Dunes. It was fabulous! We are definitely coming back to this resort with our kids. And my husband and I would gladly stay here again - just the 2 of us!

Room Tip: Marsh view if you can get it - so beautiful!

Our family has a lot of "favorites" so I feel like I use the word too often, but I can say definitively that DHHIR is our absolute favorite vacation experience. We visited for a quick fall break last year and ended up falling in love. After this second, longer visit, it's safe to say this is our beach destination for years to come.

The Disney magic is alive and well here. The cast members are amazing. From the mousekeeping to the lifeguards to the food service. I've never met a friendler, more welcoming bunch of people.

We didn't get our request in for our favorite building (18) until the week before our trip, but we were thrilled to check in after a stressful day of travel and have gotten exactly what we hoped for -- the view is amazing in 18 and the location is central to everything.

Aside from the beach/beach house (which is fun in its own right), there are also tons of activities to keep the whole family busy. Fishing from the docks (they have everything you need on hand), a great pool with pool-side karaoke and trivia offered, a putting green, hammocks, fun classes for kids and adults, basketball...It's amazing. Of course, we really enjoy the campfire too. Oh, and my kids LOVE to "rent" Disney movies from the mercantile.

Room Tip: We love building 18! Marsh view rooms are so peaceful.
